Dave Bautista Delivers Ultimatum Over James Gunn ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ Script; Kurt Russell Speaks Up For Fired Director

Guardians of the Galaxy: Drax The Destroyer 03

Members of the heroic cast of Guardians of the Galaxy have already signed a letter showing their support for their beloved director James Gunn, who was fired when decade-old disturbing tweets were unearthed by an alt-right movement to discredit the filmmaker. In the days after his firing, the cast members each sent out their sentiments and have gone as far as asking Disney and Marvel to rehire Gunn. While there was a slight glimmer of hope that that could happen, insiders are saying it’s not likely that Disney would do it. That being said, GoTG star Dave Bautista continues his crusade of support, and is stopping short of throwing down an ultimatum.

More on the story here below.

Bautista, who plays Drax in the films, posted his thoughts on the matter on his official Twitter account, where he said a Guardians film without James Gunn is not a film he’d signed up for. Additionally, he found it “nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists.” Here’s the full tweet:

And in an interview with the Shortlist, Bautista said he would not be a part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 if the new incoming director does not use Gunn’s script.

“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”

Bautista is remaining loyal to his friend and first director. That statement is full proof that Bautista is being serious about this. But despite Disney’s silence on the matter, it seems like they are not going to rehire Gunn. So it all depends on how Disney responds to Bautista’s ultimatum.

And in his anger, the actor added this.

“I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out, but I was more like: fuck this. This is bullshit. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met.”

But Bautista isn’t the only one speaking out on the matter. Kurt Russell, who played Ego in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, told this to Variety:

“You have to realize that when you are in that world as a comedian, a writer, whatever you’re always stretching the boundaries and trying to find something which lead him to something that the world loves, which is Guardians of the Galaxy. He has a wonderful heart and a wonderful mind. I hope he is forgiven.”

As of now, Disney and Marvel have not found a new director for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, which is expected to hit theaters May 2020. Whether or not that date holds remains to be seen. Of course, we will keep you updated as any new developments come in.
