This year marks the 10-year anniversary of Marvel Studios, which began with 2008’s Iron Man and has since become one of the premiere movie studios, building on its brand of superheroes. And now to commemorate all of that, Marvel Studios will release all 20 of their films in IMAX theaters. This Marvel Studios 10th Anniversary Film Festival will be only for a limited run, with the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe presented on certain days grouped by theme.

Members of the heroic cast of Guardians of the Galaxy have already signed a letter showing their support for their beloved director James Gunn, who was fired when decade-old disturbing tweets were unearthed by an alt-right movement to discredit the filmmaker. In the days after his firing, the cast members each sent out their sentiments and have gone as far as asking Disney and Marvel to rehire Gunn. While there was a slight glimmer of hope that that could happen, insiders are saying it’s not likely that Disney would do it. That being said, GoTG star Dave Bautista continues his crusade of support, and is stopping short of throwing down an ultimatum.

Stuffed to the eyeballs with carbohydrate-loaded food, we suck in our guts, put on our finest ensemble of pajama pants and Crocs, and venture out to the nearest mall/shopping center/big box retailer/gas station/roadside flea market to secure gifts for the ones we love. Marvel will be releasing Thor: Ragnarok this coming weekend. It’s the 17th film they’ve released as a part of their ongoing successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not all of Marvel Studios’ films are built the same, but they are a part of the larger universe that they are building. Each one of them serving its purpose that is leading towards a much bigger picture. So with each and every new installment comes its praises and criticisms.

While it is easy to say that every new Marvel Studios film is better than the last, the truth is some are not. So let’s revisit our list by ranking all 17 Marvel Cinematic Universe films and seeing where Thor: Ragnarok places.

So far, 2017 has been yet another interesting year at the movies – plenty of record-smashing blockbusters, even more embarrassing flops and failed franchise starters, and some unique indies that always tend to fly under the radar. We still have a few more months to go and lots more to watch, both on the big screen, the small screen, and the even smaller screens of our desktops and laptops. The ride has yet to begin, I fear.
