Eighth Grade movie Elsie Fisher

Eighth Grade, the new dramatic comedy from writer/director Bo Burnham, will screen for FREE in select theaters in the United States on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.

The 94-minute film, starring Elsie Fisher as an eight-grader in her final week of middle school dealing with the issues facing the youth of today in the age of social media, was given an R-rating by the MPAA. But the free screenings, which will take place Wednesday evening in theaters in every U.S. state, will not be ratings-enforced. Therefore, the screenings will be all-ages.

Per the filmmakers,”THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT. NO RATINGS ENFORCED. IF YOU’VE BEEN THROUGH 8TH GRADE, EIGHTH GRADE IS FOR YOU…. THIS IS NOT JUST ADULT CONTENT. THIS IS EIGHTH GRADE.”

Here’s details about the free screenings from the film’s distributor, A24 Films:

UPON ARRIVAL AT THE THEATER, PLEASE PROCEED TO GUEST SERVICES TO PICK UP YOUR TICKET. TICKETS ARE LIMITED AND BASED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS. TICKETS ARE NOT GUARANTEED. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL THEATER OR INFO@A24FILMS.COM FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Visit the film’s official site for a list of participating theaters and showtimes.

If you’re curious as to what eighth-graders think of Eighth Grade, check out the video here below, where kids of this age group and their parents were shown the film and then the kids react to it.

Eighth Grade premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and made its limited debut in U.S. theaters on July 13, 2018, before going wide after its third week, earning over $6.5 million at the box office.

In his review of the film for Geeks Of Doom, Three-D wrote, “Director Bo Burnham’s impressive feature film debut is uncontaminated by traditional narrative devices found in other high-school dramas depicting the coming-of-age story…. Eighth Grade captivates most when the richness, ugliness, and complexities of human interaction are exposed.”

Starring Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton, Emily Robinson, Jake Ryan, Luke Prael, and Catherine Oliviere, Eighth Grade is in theaters nationwide now.
