The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Last month came the announcement that Telltale Games was closing its doors, which meant the end for game series like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, which fans were finally getting a second season of after years of waiting patiently.

But the biggest immediate question everyone had was what did this mean for The Walking Dead: The Final Season. The closing chapter of Telltale’s most successful series had only just begun when the news hit, and it was unclear if two of the four episodes would ever actually see the light of day. Telltale made it clear that they were in talks with companies to help complete the season, and now we know that they’ve found the perfect partner. It was announced during the Walking Dead TV series’ New York Comic-Con 2018 panel that Skybound Entertainment, the company co-founded by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, has reached a deal to ensure that the final season does indeed get the closure it deserves.

Here’s the announcement from Skybound’s official website:

Creator Robert Kirkman announced during The Walking Dead New York Comic Con 2018 panel that Skybound will be taking on the rest of Telltale’s TWD game following their plans to close last month. “We’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion,” Kirkman announced to the crowd. “We can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.”

One of our first projects at Skybound was Telltale’s The Walking Dead. It’s something we’ve been very closely involved in since it’s inception, a big piece of Skybound’s history, and a series that we hold dear to our hearts. After Telltale Games’ announcement, many fans were left wondering if they’d see the end of the saga they’d invested so much time in.

This didn’t just affect us as partners””we were among those fans. Since Telltale’s closure notice, we’ve been spending long hours figuring out if we could help complete this game. And as of today, we are VERY pleased to announce that we are taking on the job of finishing The Walking Dead: The Final Season and seeing an end to Clem’s story line, while working with with members of the original Telltale team.

We’re currently ironing out some of the details as this is a pretty major deal, so we’ll have more info on the who/what/where/when/how very soon as those details are finalized. We appreciate your patience during this process. Thank you to the fans for being so supportive of this series and vocal about wanting to see Clementine’s story continue! We’re going to do right by you (and also for ourselves, because WE want to play it too!).
