Fantastic Beasts And The Crimes Of Grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and prequel to the Harry Potter film series. In it, we get to see a young Newt Scamader (Eddie Redmayne) being recruited by Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to defeat the likes of the evil and powerful dark wizard Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

With the film hitting theaters next week, we are going to see an increase in promotional material. And, of course, when we do see the film, it will reveal more connections to the Harry Potter films and expand its universe. Now, a couple of new featurettes explore those connections and Dumbledore’s journey through the years of Fantastic Beasts all the way to Harry Potter. Check them out below.

The first video reveals how these Fantastic Beasts films are connected to the Harry Potter universe. We all know that Dumbledore is a big part of that. However, there are other things to consider. Like the Elder Wand, which is wielded by Grindelwald. Credence Barebone’s (Ezra Miller) necklace with the Deathly Hallows symbol on it. And then there’s the The Mirror of Erised. All these established a link to the future Harry Potter storylines. Now, it was expected that we would see these Easter eggs in the franchise. But they appear to be more than that as it looks like they serve a larger purpose for future films.

So it remains to be seen what their purpose will be and whether or not we will see them again in other films. We’ll just have to keep a look out for them.

The second video takes a look at Albus Dumbledore and his romantic relationship to Grindelwald. Though it is unclear how The Crimes of Grindelwald will address this, Harry Potter fans know that the two had a very serious relationship. And the featurette teases what we can expect to see.

Official plot synopsis:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling‘s Wizarding Worldâ„¢. At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

The film also stars Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, and Poppy Corby-Tuech.

Directed by David Yates, from a script written by Rowling, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will open in theaters on November 16, 2018.
