Dumbo Trailer Header

Disney has released the newest trailer for the live-action adaptation of Dumbo.

Directed by Tim Burton, the re-imagined film sees Colin Farrell as a single father of two children who take it upon themselves to reunite a baby elephant with his mother. Check out the trailer, below.

Disney will continue to mine through their animated archives and adapt them to live-action films probably until the end of time. Though the films have been a mixed bag, both critically and commercially, the number of films will draw fans of the original animated versions into theaters. And hopefully get the newer generation interested in watching the original animated films.

And like all of the adaptations, there are familiar nods to the original. Casey Jr., the train that takes the circus across the country. Timothy Q. Mouse, except, he doesn’t talk. The blackbird feather that “helps” Dumbo fly. And, of course, the pink elephants. The very things that haunted my dreams, and I am sure everyone else’s as well.

Unlike the animated film, this Dumbo will feature a live-action family helping the titular pachyderm be reunited with his mother. Dumbo’s oversized ears make him the laughing stock of a struggling circus. However, when they discover that he can fly, the circus makes a miraculous comeback. When the greedy V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton) makes an offer to take Dumbo to his illustrious Dreamland. There the infant elephant will work alongside Colette Marchant (Eva Green), an aerial artist. But Holt will soon discover there is more to Dreamland than appears to be.

Burton’s use of the out-of-this-world visuals and heavy CG is nothing new. And aside from the animals and pink elephants, it doesn’t look like there will be as much of it as, let’s say, Alice in Wonderland. That being said, it looks like it could be a lot of fun and an excellent live-action sister film to the animated version.

Here is the official plot synopsis:

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

The film also stars Alan Arkin. Ehren Kruger (Ophelia, Dream House) wrote the script.

Disney has scheduled Dumbo for a March 29, 2019, release.
