‘Toy Story 4’: Tim Allen Says Keanu Reeves Will Voice A New Toy

Keanu Reeves joins Toy Story 4

Toy Story 4 isn’t due out in theaters until next year, but we’ve already got two very interesting teasers featuring three new toys. In one trailer, Forky (Tony Hale) is seen going through somewhat of an existential crisis. In another trailer, Bunny (Jordan Peele) and Ducky (Keegan-Michael Key) had some trouble reciting Buzz Lightyear’s famous catchphrase: “To Infinity And Beyond.” But it looks like the toy chest is going to need some more room. That’s because Keanu Reeves will reportedly voice a new character in the film. More on the report, below.

Tim Allen made a visit over the Thanksgiving break to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where he revealed the casting news. Obviously, Allen wasn’t going to give any huge spoilers. Although, he credits the screenwriters for being smart and creating a plot that’s “deep” and “moving.” Watch the video down below.

“I can’t give anything away. It’s about different kind of toys. They really will surprise you with the toys they come up with. [Old] characters came back. New guys are in it that are great. Keanu Reeves has got a great part. Inside story, even the fun, gentle guy that he is, even he said, “˜This sounds too much like Buzz Lightyear.’ And his character does have an edge to that.”

Allen motioned that Reeves’ character was only “that big,” showing that the size of the toy was actually pretty tiny. A nice contrast to an actor who has been playing action characters throughout his career. In fact, Allen said Reeves was worried that his character sounded too much like Buzz. So the size difference should put things into perspective.

That being said, we still don’t know what the character looks like. Although, some speculate that it could be the toy that appears in Jack-Jack’s playpen in The Incredibles 2.

Although it is unconfirmed, Pixar has made a habit of subtly adding characters from future films in the movie that precedes it. So if this is true, he may have been hiding under our noses.

While we have yet to find out who Reeves will be playing, Allen’s description says that he could be the perfect addition to Woody and the gang. Of course, we will keep you updated should any new developments come in.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.

Toy Story 4 opens in theaters on June 21, 2019.
