A PG-13 Deadpool may sound like the Merc with a Mouth is selling out, but as Ryan Reynolds has said, Once Upon A Deadpool is all for a good cause. And yet, some may not believe it. Namely Fred Savage, who appears in the film strapped to a bed against his will by Deadpool.
So since they have a lot of time to kill, Savage wants to get to the truth about why Deadpool is doing this and why he chose to have a Princess Bride theme to tell a revised version of Deadpool 2, which was released earlier this year. Check out the video, dubbed “Savage Questions,” below.
In the video, we get to see Savage pester Deadpool about why a PG-13 film starring him is being released during the holidays. To which Deadpool replied: “It’s a family movie. Also, money. Also Disney.” Well, at least Deadpool is up to date on current events. Especially events that concern him and who his boss will be.
It may seem like Fox is trying to milk one of their Marvel properties for more money, but Reynolds said he wouldn’t do it for any other reason than charity. So, for every ticket sold, $1 will go to Fudge Cancer – a toned-down play on Fuck Cancer, which is the actual name of the charity. So if you want to feel good about going to a movie, then Once Upon A Deadpool might be the film to watch this year. Because at least you know a portion of your ticket will go to fucking up cancer.
Here’s what Reynolds had to say about it (via Deadline):
“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006. I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said “˜Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining”¦” Fred Savage will join Reynolds in new scenes for ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL in an homage to Savage’s starring role in the 1987 bedtime-story classic THE PRINCESS BRIDE. Fred remarked, “while my participation in this film was anything but voluntary, I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab”
Once Upon A Deadpool opens in theaters on December 12, 2018.
