Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel will be their first female standalone superhero film. Starring Academy Award-winning actor Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a human who has been augmented with Kree powers which she will use to stop the Skrull invasion. Though we are still a little over two months away from the film’s release, we are still getting some exciting promotional material leading up to it.
So in addition to the special preview video that was released earlier this week, we now have a new featurette that details Larson’s preparation for the role, which included training at the gym and at an Air Force base where she learned what it was like to be in a dog fight. Check out the entire video below.
Co-director Anna Boden said:
“Captain Marvel is about somebody who goes on a journey of discover. And I think it was really important for Brie to learn how to fight.”
Larson says that by the time they started shooting she had already been training for nine months. Montages of her at the gym plus some fight sequences show us that she isn’t half-assing it. “Doing fight sequences and training for days, I felt kind of alive,” said Larson.
She added:
“The thing that I found so unique about this character was that sense of humor mixed with total capability in whatever challenge comes her way. Which I realize after going to the Air Force base, is really what Air Force pilots are like.”
So we then see what very few get to experience first hand, to be a part of a simulated dog fight where she got to be on both offense and defense. Plus, she got to go at 6.5 Gs. Sounds and looks exciting.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
