A couple of years back we found out that Veep director Chris Addison had signed on to direct a remake of the 1988 Michael Caine and Steve Martin movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson attached to star in the two lead roles.
At the time the movie was titled Nasty Women, but has since been changed to The Hustle. MGM has released an official trailer for the remake, and you can find it below along with a brief synopsis and a poster.
SYNOPSIS:
In the hilarious new comedy THE HUSTLE, Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson star as female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, who team up to take down the dirty rotten men who have wronged them.
The screenplay was written by Jac Schaeffer, who’s been quite busy lately. After writing and directing TiMER a decade ago, she was eventually hired to write the screenplay for the Frozen short Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (click right here to check out the just-released first trailer for Frozen 2 if you haven’t seen it yet). Since then, she has worked on the screenplay for Captain Marvel, written the upcoming Black Widow movie, and signed on to write, executive produce, and handle showrunner duties on the Disney+ series The Vision and Scarlet Witch along with penning The Hustle.
In addition to writing and executive producing episodes of HBO’s Veep (and winning two Emmy Awards in the process), Addison has also directed episodes of The Thick of It, Fresh Off the Boat, and Playing House, and starred in episodes of The Thick of It and its movie spinoff In the Loop, Skins, and Doctor Who. He next directs Hallelujah! starring Ralph Fiennes.
The Hustle is set to be released in theaters on May 10th.
