What do you get when you combine a bad attitude with entropy at its ugliest? Bad Luck Chuck #1 is what. Chaos incarnate, available for a price, that is exactly what she is and she is damn good at it, too. She might be cursed but Charlene “Chuck” Manchester has found a way to make a living from it.

Unfortunately for her, she is a natural disaster in human form and that has not gone unnoticed. Her arrival and the subsequent destruction that follows has caught the attention of at least one person who is determined to catch her in the act. The only problem with that plan is that she apparently never leaves any evidence of the prosecutable sort. To be fair, though, the reader is left with the feeling she could not care less.

This premier issue of Bad Luck Chuck, however, sets up the first story arc and gives Chuck a client who is also a victim. Will Chuck’s bad luck help or hinder her newest friend? With all of the cards stacking against her, will her powers hold up when pushed to the edge or will she fall prey to those who seek to stop her? Readers will find her take on life both refreshing and narcissistic. We do not know why she is the way she is but we know she certainly understands how to benefit from it.

I see this as a great comic with some fun storylines in the future, I just hope writer Lela Gwenn fleshes out the character a bit and that artist Matthew Dow Smith creates a bit more depth visually, as well. There is so much potential here and I bet a television series could be a result of some great comics, if the right people see this.

I will be keeping an eye on Bad Luck Chuck and I surely hope you will, too!

She’ll need more than a rabbits foot to get through this.

Cursed at birth, Charlene ”Chuck” Manchester hires out her own bad luck, providing disaster where someone else can profit. She can get you that insurance payout fortune–for a price. But bad luck doesn’t always go as planned, an d when Chuck gets stuck between a dissatisfied crime boss client , a cult leader, and a dogged insurance-fraud investigator, things get . . . explosive.

Everything that could go wrong does–and only about half of it by accident.
