It looks like a Stark will be joining Marvel Studios’ The Eternals.
Richard Madden, who played Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, is set to be a part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by joining the upcoming film being directed by Chloe Zhao. More on the report below.
The Wrap says Madden is currently in talks to appear in the upcoming Marvel Studios’ film. If talks go through as planned, he would be joining both Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani.
Though they couldn’t verify who the actor would be playing, Variety says that he would be playing the role of Ikaris, a superpowered being whose life force is augmented by cosmic energy. In addition to flight, superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes and durability, a regenerative healing factor, cosmic energy manipulation, psionic powers, matter transmutation and teleportation, he has total mental control over his physical form and bodily processes even when he is asleep or unconscious. This practically makes him an immortal.
As we’ve reported earlier, Jolie will play Sersi, another superpowered being with superhuman strength and durability, and molecular and atomic manipulation, who isn’t afraid to walk amongst humans. Nanjiani joined the cast after Jolie, followed by the addition of Train to Busan star Ma Dong-seok, though neither of their roles are known yet.
Madden certainly has the presence of being a leader like Ikaris. Other credits include appearing as Prince Charming aka Mr. Kit in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella. Madden also has a role in the BBC drama The Bodyguard.
First published in 1976, The Eternals followed one of two products created by The Celestials, who conducted genetic experiments on early proto-humanity. And the other is the genetically unstable and monstrously grotesque Deviants.
Directed by Zhao, who uses a script written by Matthew Firpo and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals has no release date as of yet. But with Disney revealing their slate of films set for release, we can expect to see it hit theaters between now and 2022. Of course, we could possibly hear about a release date either at SDCC or D23 Expo. We will just have to keep you posted.
