A new Ghostbusters is on the way. With most of the original cast from the first two films accepting the call, new faces will also be appearing.
Ant-Man star and person who seems to defy the laws of aging, Paul Rudd, will be a part of Ghostbusters 2020, which is expected to shoot later this fall. Check out the full story below.
The news was formally announced on Twitter, with Variety breaking the exclusive news of the casting.
While it seemed likely that Rudd would be a part of the jumpsuit crew, the report says that he will be playing a teacher. But that hasn’t stopped him from having fun with the announcement, as he took over the Ghostbusters 2020 Twitter account to share a video of himself in front of Hook and Ladder 8, where the Ghostbusters are stationed, to say that he would be joining the film. Here’s a look at the video:
It’s very possible his character will be the teacher for the young characters played by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Mckenna Grace (Gifted). Carrie Coon is also said to be in talks for a role in the film.
Though there are very few details about the plot, it is said that the film will be a passing of the torch of sorts, with the original crew teaching a new generation about ghostbusting and eventually handing off their proton packs to them.
Of the announcement, director Jason Reitman said:
“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for Wet Hot American Summer at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe.”
Original stars Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Bill Murray will all be a part of this film in some capacity. Additionally, Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original Ghostbusters, so with that lineage and experience in that world, combined with his signature brand of comedy and storytelling, this should make for a nice continuation of the first two Ghostbusters.
Written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters 2020 will hit theaters on July 10, 2020. Click right here to check out the teaser for the film if you missed it.
