It feels like the sequel to 300 has been in the works forever, but we’re finally close to actually seeing the film, so Warner Bros. came to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday to show off 300: Rise of an Empire. On stage to talk about the film were director Noam Murro, and actors Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, and Sullivan Stapleton. The panel started with an extended clip from the film, showing the origins of Xerses and the start of the war between Persia and the Greeks. That was followed up with a montage of the battle scenes from the movie, with plenty of sea borne action for the sequel.

Swords. Dragons. Magic. These are elements that can be found in a lot of successful properties these days, from The Hobbit to Game of Thrones. Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures are staking their claim on the fantasy genre with Seventh Son, based on The Wardstone Chronicles series of novels by Joseph Delany. The film stars Jeff Bridges, Antje Traue (Man of Steel), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), and Ben Barnes (The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian), who were all on hand at San Diego Comic-Con today to discuss the movie. Joining the actors was director Sergei Bodrov, and they all had a wealth of information to share on the film. Jeff Bridges came out first, and he explained the basic plot of the story, saying that it is “chock full ‘o myth” and magic. Then we got a solid chunk of footage put together for Comic-Con from the film, with the main characters fighting a giant boggard, fighting dragons, fighting witches, basically lots of fighting. Ben Barnes’ character, Tom Ward, becomes the apprentice to Jeff Bridges character, Master Gregory. The plot deals with Master Jeremy and Ward face down a horrible witch played by Julianne Moore. The clip was filled with a lot of excitement and all the classic elements of great fantasy films.

| SDCC 2013: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Panel
What would the 2013 version of San Diego Comic-Con be without an appearance by the Amazing Spider-Man, and an appearance by Spidey is just what we got Friday at the convention center. Director Marc Webb was on the panel to show off a bit of footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is still in production. Along for the ride with Webb was his leading actor, Andrew Garfield, who came out dressed in full Spider-Man gear. Dean DeHaan who plays Harry Osborne was also there, as well as producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Emma Stone had a brief video message that was interrupted by Electro. Then, in a surprise moment, Jaime Foxx came out on stage to some huge applause. Garfield went on to play the beginning of the panel in character as Spider-Man, getting asked a bunch of hero-related questions. A few minutes in, Spider-Man got called away on urgent business, leaving room for Garfield’s proper entrance.

| SDCC 2013: ‘RoboCop’ Panel
Anticipation for the RoboCop remake has been hit or miss since the project was announced, which made the Sony/Screen Gems panel at San Diego Comic-Con today the first big chance the filmmakers had to get everyone on their side. On hand to talk about the film were director Jose Padilha, and actors Joel Kinnaman (The Killing), Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch), Michael Keaton, and fan favorite Samuel L. Jackson. The panel started with a solid 5-minute clip showing Samuel L. Jackson as a TV host, sending out a broadcast showing some ED-209’s in action in the Middle East, while Michael Keaton’s character tries to convince members of the government that robots can be used as police instead of humans. Director Jose Padilha explained that he wasn’t going to attempt to do the same movie that came out in 1987, but wanted to take elements and put them in a modern context where combat drones are a very real thing.
