Marvel Studios knows what they’re doing when it comes to San Diego Comic-Con panels and it was no different today when Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige showed off a ton of footage from Thor: The Dark World, the much anticipated next film in the Marvel film universe. Tom Hiddleston was the first to come out in full Loki regalia, and had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the word go. He taunted the crowd for waiting in line for Hall H, and said so in true Shakespearian style. You could tell that Hiddleston was loving every minute (having to hold back laughter) and promised that he would present the Avengers if the crowd would acknowledge him as leader by saying his name, which the fans were more that happy to do, now becoming enlisted in Loki’s Army. Loki’s new minions were rewarded for loyalty by being shown a brand new trailer for Thor: The Dark World.

Director James Mangold was on stage at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman as the title character. The director described the film as a tough guy movie that deals with where Logan comes from and where he’s going to. He said that they have amped up the action in the sequel, while finding a way to explore his personality. They then showed an extended clip of the movie that featured some of the most brutal scenes that have ever featured Wolverine. Wolverine was shown getting shot, stabbed, poisoned, and dishing out as much as he takes. Much of the footage had already been shown in the official trailer, but there was plenty of new stuff in this R-rated footage. Then they showed the footage again for good measure.

Saturday at San Diego Comic Con was a day for the big sci-fi movies and 20th Century Fox had a huge presence, giving fans a surprise first look at the next film in the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Director Bryan Singer, writer/producer Simon Kidberg, producer Lauren Shuller-Donner, and producer Todd Hallowell, along with actors Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Ian McKellan, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Omar Sy, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, and Hugh Jackman were all on stage to show off the new movie. Singer was the first to come out on stage to introduce the cast. The film is still in production in Vancouver, with about a month left to go. However, they showed a solid chunk of footage from the film. It started off with the older Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in the future sending Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) into the past with a mission to meet the younger version of the Professor (James McAvoy). He also needs to find the younger Magneto (Michael Fassbender), who the older mutant (Ian McKellen) explains took a darker path. There were then shots of Wolverine interacting with the 70’s version of the X-Men team, and plenty of action thrown in for good measure. The footage got the whole crowd excited and it made me personally feel a lot more confident for the upcoming film. Even the brief footage helped to set up the plot and explained why both the new and old set of characters are in the same movie.

One of the best things that can happen at San Diego Comic-Con is getting a first glimpse at movies that you don’t know anything about and getting hyped for them. Such is the case with Liongate’s I, Frankenstein, which I hadn’t seen anything on, but came out of today’s panel very excited about it. Writer/director Stuart Beattie, actors Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter), and graphic novel writer Kevin Grevioux (Underworld) were there to talk up the movie and show a ton of footage from the film. Beattie started off by explaining that the story is about a Frankenstein’s monster that has lived for over 200 years. In this version, the Monster gets caught up in a war between Gargoyles and Demons.
