As in people who keep the peace. Let’s see how that works out for them. For the first time in history, G.I. Joe has a woman at the helm. Literally. Writer Karen Traviss makes the jump from military fiction novels to comics, and the one burning question that I have is, why didn’t she do it sooner?

Whether we like it or not, all good things must come to an end. Ghostbusters #20 is the last issue of what has been a fantastic series. And, the epic conclusion of the Ghostbusters 30th anniversary story line, “Mass Hysteria”. Erik Burnham wraps up this story, and series, in a funny, breath taking, uplifting way, as he always does. The boys are taking on both Gozer AND his brother, Tiamat. Ray is possessed, Winston’s in BIG TIME trouble, all around, it’s a typical Ghostbusters mess. And, in his usual fashion, Burnham makes it a lot of fun. As from the very beginning, the characterization is spot-on, and you can actually hear the actors from the film delivering the dialogue. There’s plenty of action, lots of humor, and it’s an all around great script.

Hot off the heels of his MEGA-successful Kickstarter campaign, Ryan Browne didn’t just sit around smoking cigars and counting money! NO! He got hard at work on what we all wanted — God Hates Astronauts #1!!! Was it worth the wait? Let’s take a look…… Ryan Browne starts you laughing from the inside front cover and keeps you laughing until the very back. I’m not kidding here, folks. This is literally cover-to-cover funny. We get an awesome space battle/disaster and that goes right into a man’s love affair with a chicken. Yes, you read that right. A chicken. And if you haven’t read the first volume of GHA (shame on you!), don’t worry! There’s a great character that comes along to recap what’s come before so that you are not lost or confused at all. I don’t want to go into story details because honestly, if I told you, you wouldn’t believe me. I can’t stress enough that this is one of the funniest and most entertaining comics that I’ve read in ages.

Writer Ande Parks once again delivers a great, new, yet classic Lone Ranger story. It’s got all the hallmarks of the classic western hero. Throughout his run, he’s made this comic more than just a comic book. He’s brought life and REAL feelings to the readers of this title. He’s brought inspiration through this book. And, he’s showed us all that there is a hero in every single one of us, as long as we stand strong and do the right thing. In short, he’s turned The Lone Ranger into more than a great western comic; he’s given us a role model. A man that we can all aspire to be.
