This July, IDW Publishing has decided to take a break from their usual “universe-spanning crossover event” by doing something different — putting out a high quality comic book mini-series that’s unique from anything else on the stands. Eisner Award-nominated writer Chris Ryall teams up with Eisner Award-nominated artist of Locke & Key, Gabriel Rodriguez, to bring their new creation, Onyx to comic fans everywhere. Debuting this month in select IDW titles is the issue #0 for the series, but if you haven’t seen it yet, we’ve got a treat for you, because you can read it RIGHT HERE!

Ninjak #3 could not be better than issue #2 was. At least, that’s what I thought. For some reason the creative team seems to be on a mission to make each issue better than the last, just to spite me. Do you know how hard it is writing these reviews, when I keep having to say “this book can’t possibly get any better!”?

Sons of the Devil #1
Written by Brian Buccellato

Image Comics
Release Date: May 27, 2015
Cover Price: $2.99
Sons of the Devil #1 is so many things, that it’s hard to put it into one genre. I could say horror, mystery, thriller, crime drama, the list goes on and on. But, the one category that I feel totally comfortable putting it in, is REALLY GOOD. I’ve come to be a big fan of writer Brian Buccellato over the last couple of years. I’ve enjoyed his work on both The Flash and on Detective Comics as well, so while this might have been a comic that I normally would’ve passed on, his name sold me on this book, and boy am I glad that I took a chance on it.

Miami Vice Remix #3
Written by Joe Casey
Art by Jim Mahfood
Colors by Justin Stewart
Edited by Shannon Eric Denton
Production Artist: Kristen Fitzner Denton
Cover art by Jim Mahfood
IDW Publishing
Release Date: May 13, 2015
Cover Price: $3.99 Miami Vice Remix #3 is crazy. Everything about it crazy. There’s cops on drugs, an alligator, voodoo drug dealers, a crying police captain, the list goes on and on. What’s even crazier is that everything about this book works. It works really well. Let’s take a more in-depth look… Writer Joe Casey just dumps everything that he has in his head out on the page, and it works in an amazing way. Not only that, but make no mistake, this IS Miami Vice in every sense of the words. He’s taken everything that was amazing about the television show and turned it on its ear and made it relevant for today’s audience, while not making it totally unrecognizable for people like me, who watched and loved the series.

Release Date: May 13, 2015
Cover Price: $3.99 Snake Eyes: Agent of Cobra #5 is stunning. That’s the good news. The bad news is, that’s pretty much all I can say about it without spoiling anything. Seriously, this is one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever had to writer. Every page of this book could be considered a spoiler. But, I’ll do my best. There’s a reason that Mike Costa writes a lot of G.I. Joe comics. He’s really really good at it. So, if you’ve been keeping up on the title (which you REALLY should be), you know that Jinx and Billy are on the run from somebody’s who’s trying to kill them. This issue, we find out why and the answer will shock you and at the same time, it’s just flat out brilliant. PLUS….OK, this is impossible to keep up with at this point.
