Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is a variation on the classic romance story: Boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy has to defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. The premise seems simple, but there are several layers to the story. Although the core of the story is the love between Scott, a twentysomething slacker, and the mysterious Ramona Flowers, the subplots and supporting characters make for a lively and truly entertaining story. The screenwriters borrowed heavily from the six-volume graphic novel series, especially the first three volumes. People who have read the whole story will love the references such as the diagram of what belongs to Scott and what belongs to his gay roommate Wallace, excellently portrayed by Kieran Culkin. It was also great to see Scott’s band Sex Bob-omb playing.

Recently, a documentary was released to YouTube in three parts about what was a proposed movie called Blackstar Warrior, an all-black take on the Star Wars universe that features what would have been the first appearance of the Lando Calrissian character.
The documentary uncovers the sad tale of Frederic Jackson, Sr., an African-American businessman who attempted to self-finance Blackstar Warrior. The documentary also has interviews with Jackson’s son and reveals the obstacles and trials that prevented Blackstar Warrior from ever being completed. You can watch all three parts of the documentary here below, the third part of which has what is being touted as actual footage from Blackstar Warrior. There’s been some talk that this documentary is a parody or a hoax, but Geeks of Doom had a chance to speak with Matt Haley, a comic book artist involved with this documentary, who helped clear up the situation for us. Check out our interview with Haley here below.

The Closer‘s Jon Tenney has joined the cast of the Green Lantern film as Hal Jordan’s dad Martin Jordan.
Tenney is only 15 years older than the adult Hal Jordan, Ryan Reynolds, so his scenes will take place in the past when Hal Jordan is still a young boy. I think this is a good casting decision. I enjoy Jon Tenney on The Closer and I see a bit of a resemblance between Tenney and Reynolds. This production has continued to make good casting choices such as this one, Ryan Reynolds, and Angela Bassett. I am looking forward to this film next year.
