Geek Discussion: As Use Of The Word “Geek” Skyrockets, Best Buy Is Watching Closely
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

It’s no secret that use of the word “geek” has evolved from being somewhat derogatory into something of a medal of honor without and specific meaning. Many think of it as someone who’s very much into science fiction and fantasy genre movies, TV shows, and games. But we here at Geeks of Doom like to think being a geek now means that an individual is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about something. You can be the traditional geek, a tech geek, a heavy metal geek, a food geek, and the list goes on and on and on. It’s surely come a long way since its time as a high school clique consisting of computer nerds, this much is for sure.

But no matter what your own definition of the word might be, as “geek” continues to evolve and gain popularity in everyday usage, it was only a matter of time before it also attracted some not-so-pleasant attention in the process.

Be sure to keep reading for much more and to see a video related to the discussion!

Modder Turns R2-D2 Into Xbox 360 Playing Projection Masterpiece
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

The very talented creator of Major League Modders, Mark Bongo, has built what could be one of the ultimate geek treasures ever constructed.

Bongo took an R2-D2 of decent size, which should already have geek ears perking. He then added two very entertaining new elements to the Star Wars droid: an Xbox 360 and a projector. These brilliant additions allow for an Xbox-playing R2-D2 who can project your game onto any flat surface you want it to from 15″ to 50″ in size.

You can check out this insanely cool modded R2-D2 in the form of a video by clicking on over to the other side now, and there’s plenty of pictures at his Facebook page. If you’re much more wealthy than I am, you can even purchase it at the link provided above for $2,500.

Is This Video Of A Man Hacking The Screens Of New York City’s Time Square With An iPhone Fake?
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

An interesting video is making its way around the ‘net, and we want to hear your opinions on its legitimacy.

The video in question shows a man with a very cool trick. He’s created a little transmitter device that plugs into his iPhone, and when a second device is held near a video screen it automatically takes over the screen with the video playing on the phone. To prove this, he starts by recording a little video of himself shot by a friend in New York City’s Time Square of all places (where better to show off such a thing?) and then goes to prove it works.

So has this guy created something incredible, or is the entire thing a complete joke? Be sure to click on over to the other side now and see the video for yourself!

ScentScape Smell-O-Vision device

Today is a special day, folks. Today is a day where we find out that one of those things we’ve always dreamed about but never actually thought was possible is revealed to be a reality.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, Smell-O-Vision is here! We’ve all heard of it, and all wished it were real: movies, TV shows, video games, and more that allow you to smell various settings or things you’re seeing on the screen. Such a thing would make home entertainment more immersive and interactive than it’s ever been before, and has the potential to be an endlessly amusing sensory experience if done correctly.

Video: Children Riding In Daleks

Tom Cheredar   |

Dalek toy

Capitalizing on the colorful upgrades to the classic Doctor Who enemy race in the most recent season of the popular BBC sci-fi show, toy manufacturer Kids@Play debuted a video of their fully functional — and ride-able — Dalek.

Standing at 128cm tall, these mobile Daleks are powered by a 6-volt rechargeable battery allowing for 360-degree steering, lights, and 10 authentic sound effects that more or less promise the death of all living creatures.

Considering that the Dalek race’s motives are to carry out genocide against all inferior races (which is any race that isn’t their own), I can’t decide if turning them into playful vehicles is terrifying or morbidly awesome. [There’s also a slim chance that I’m just bitter because my adult size would never fit inside one.]

I leave you to make your own conclusions after watching the video clip embedded below.
