Mystery Science Theater 3000‘s initial broadcast run ended in August 1999, when The Sci-Fi Channel canceled the beloved series. That wasn’t the end of movie-riffing, however. In 2007, five of the original cast/writers of MST3KJoel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, J. Elvis Weinstein, Mary Jo Pehl, and Frank Conniff – launched Cinematic Titanic, a stripped-down spin on riffing B-movies.

In this series, scientists have discovered a tear in the universe’s “electron scaffolding” and all digital media is at risk. A mysterious organization recruits the MST3K alums to participate in a top-secret think tank, where they will save our planet’s history by riffing on movies for future generations.

Preacher
Episode 2.8 “Holes”
Directed by Maja Vrvilo
Written by Mark Stegemann

Starring Dominic Cooper, Joe Gilgun, Ruth Negga, Gianna LePera, Graham McTavish, Tom Brooke, Ian Colletti, Julie Ann Emery
AMC

Last week on AMC’s Preacher we finally peeked behind the curtain of The Grail. The Grail is religious cult-like organization with one mission: protect the Jesus Messiah mythos by circling the globe and annihilating all other “godly threats.” Last week, a floating pig in Vietnam was being worshipped by villagers and Herr Starr (Pip Torrens) arrived to clean the mess up. Torrens was electric last week as we watched his ascension from potential Grail employee to leader of the organization. Jesse (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) are still in New Orleans searching for God, having dealt with the threat of the Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish)… for now. But all of them are preoccupied by their own personal demons to focus on the mission at hand.

Check out my review for this week’s Preacher here below (SPOILERS):

Sharknado 5 Global Swarming

The most wonderful time of the summer is upon us; it’s Sharknado Time! Back in 2013, the Asylum produced the first Sharknado and it “stormed” social media and became an overnight sensation. Here we are, 4 films later ready for the fifth installment of the franchise that helped resurrect the careers of Ian Ziering and Tara Reid. These films are very dear to me, as this marks my 4-year anniversary writing and reviewing for Geeks of Doom. The Sharknado franchise checks all the boxes: sharks, disaster movies, celebrity cameos, hilariously awful special effects”¦ in other words, it’s event TV. This time, the ‘nado has gone global!

Let’s be real, reviewing Sharknado 5: Global Swarming in the same way you review other films or television series it just pointless. You knew years ago from the title alone if these movies were for you. This is now an annual American event, like Discovery Channel’s Shark Week. Fans gather to watch the ridiculousness, laugh at the cameos, and see what crazy stuff the creators come up with next.
