Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Xbox 360| PS3 | PC | Wii U
DEVELOPER: Treyarch
PUBLISHER: Activision
RELEASE DATE: November 13, 2012

Releasing a new title in a video game franchise every year is no easy task, and with it comes something of a curse. While fans of the games eat up each annual installment, most others eventually get bored and yearn for something more fresh and original, as was the case, for a recent example, with both the Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty franchises.

Due to this, we saw both series look to refresh their respective franchises this year. Assassin’s Creed III ran away from the historical Italian setting of its previous three installments and relocated to the United States during the American Revolution. It’s still basically the same thing we’ve seen released by Ubisoft the past four years or so, but the setting change has clearly been appreciated and the game has gotten generally positive reviews. As for Call of Duty, developer Treyarch had the tricky task of revitalizing the franchise with their own sequel, Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Modern Warfare 3 Image

It’s almost a rhetorical question to ask—the Call of Duty video game franchise has grossed an insane amount of money over the past few years—but it’s still something that does have a question mark at the end. Has Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 been confirmed already, a couple of weeks before Call of Duty: Black Ops II arrives?

According to Bill Murray (no, not that one), the actor who voices the popular character Captain Price, development on the game has already begun.

The Walking Dead Video Game

Activision has announced a brand new video game based on AMC’s hit TV series, The Walking Dead, which is being developed by Terminal Reality.

The project isn’t related to the episodic point and click Walking Dead title by Telltale Games, who just released its second episode with the third looking at a mid-August arrival.

This new adaptation of the popular TV series (which is of course based on the Robert Kirkman comic of the same name) will be a first-person adventure game that will rely heavily on survival–not so dissimilar from the recent Dead Island [Our Review Here], sans the tropical locale–requiring you to ration your food, water, ammunition, and general supplies in order to survive.

Wreck-It Ralph

We’ve seen countless video game movies—movies based on existing video game titles or characters—and vice versa over the years. But rarely do we see a video game based on a movie about video games.

Disney and Activision Publishing have announced that a video game based on Wreck-It Ralph, the new computer animated feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios, is on the way.

The movie follows an arcade game bad guy named Ralph (John C. Reilly) who decides that he’s sick of being the bad guy, and heads off on an adventure to turn his existence around and become the good guy for once.

Battleship Game

In anticipation of the release of Battleship, the new movie from director Peter Berg that stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker, Alexander Skarsgard, and Rihanna, Activision Publishing Inc. has released their Battleship video game that’s based on the movie… which is, of course, based on the Hasbro board game of the same name.

Battleship has players taking control of a naval fleet, and combines both fist-person action gameplay with military strategy gameplay. You’ll be trapped on the Hawaiian islands with no support when you take control of your fleet—including Destroyers, Carriers, and even the U.S.S Missouri— and set off to do battle with invading alien forces on the sea, in the air, and on land.

You can check out a trailer for the game below.
