When Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to make a Pokemon movie a month ago, it was following the successful launch of the mobile smartphone game Pokemon Go. Basically, the production company was taking advantage of the resurgence.

While the games provide a wealth of source material to work with, Legendary will not be using any of it. Instead, they will be making an adaptation of recent Japanese title Great Detective Pikachu.
