Russell Crowe Confirms Dr. Jekyll Role In ‘The Mummy’
Just last week there were reports that Russell Crowe was in negotiations to star as a Dr. Jekyll-type character in The Mummy starring Tom Cruise. It was said that the role could be more than just a cameo and if successful would open the door for him to star in more films and possibly his own solo feature.
Now, what was a rumor has become a confirmation as Crowe has confirmed that he will be a part of the Monsters Shared Universe that Universal Pictures is currently building. Plus, he says the film is being made to “seriously scare the shit out of you.” More on the story below.

Russell Crowe To Join Tom Cruise In ‘The Mummy’
Shared universes are all the rage, and studios are in the midst of locking in A-list stars for these films, sometimes for multiple pictures. Disney has Star Wars and MCU. Warner Bros has the DCEU. Paramount is starting to build their Hasbro Shared Universe. And Universal Pictures is putting their Shared Monsters Universe into motion.
Tom Cruise will be starring in the reboot of The Mummy, and it appears the film will not be short on star power as there are reports coming in saying that Russell Crowe will be joining him, and could possibly be in more films.

Tom Cruise In Talks For ‘Mummy’ Reboot; Will Begin Monsters Shared Universe
There’s no doubt whatsoever that many eyes rolled at the news that Universal was going to attempt to turn their classic monsters into a shared universe similar to what Marvel has been doing, beginning with a reboot of The Mummy. But when a name like Tom Cruise comes into the picture, eyebrows will no doubt raise above those previously rolled eyeballs…making for some truly silly faces others will giggle at.
It’s being reported that Cruise has entered into talks for a role in the new Mummy flick, which makes things much more interesting. Who would Cruise play? That’s unclear at the moment…but given that this is a shared universe, you can expect that it would be a multi-picture deal that would see him showing up in other movies that will follow The Mummy centering on Wolf Man, Dracula, and more.
