| New ‘Star Trek’ TV Series Officially On The Way
The last time that a new episode of a Star Trek TV series was on the air was over a decade ago when Star Trek: Enterprise ended its fifth and final season. Whispers of a new TV show have come and gone from time to time, especially after J.J. Abrams successfully rebooted the movie franchise in 2009, but now a new series is officially on the way. It’s being reported that Star Trek movie writer and producer Alex Kurtzman is developing a new take on the beloved franchise for television, which he will also executive produce. But those of you excited about news like this have even more to be excited about: the franchise is already established enough that, instead of waiting for a pilot to be ordered and made and watched to decide if they want to give it a full series, this new show has already been given the full series order. | Rumors: Sony May “Soft Reboot” Spider-Man; Venom Cancelled
There is just no end to the Spider-Man franchise rumors. Yesterday, we reported that Sony might be willing to let Marvel use the character in attempts to reestablish him as the lucrative franchise character he was while Sam Raimi was directing. While it is a long shot, it is definitely a move that would benefit both houses, but also should be a huge service to fans. Now comes a new rumor that Sony is rebooting the franchise yet again, but that it will be a “soft reboot.” There are also murmurings of the Alex Kurtzman-directed Venom being cancelled. | Alex Kurtzman Talks Darker Venom Spinoff Movie
The Venom we saw in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 wasn’t really the Venom Spider-Man fans wanted to see, but it was as close to seeing the alien symbiote on the big screen as we were going to get. The character is most known for sharing the same abilities as Spider-Man, but also having some distinguishing ones like being able to block Spider-Man’s Spider Sense and limited shapeshifting. For Alex Kurtzman, we can expect to see a Venom that is much darker than “your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man,” in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man spinoff film of the same name. | Universal’s ‘The Mummy’ Reboot Has Its Director
Recently it was announced that Universal was going to reboot their Classic Monsters, and also bring them together similarly to what Marvel did with their superheros in The Avengers. The ambitious plan is being developed by writers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, but now it appears at least one of the two wants to get a little more hands-on. It’s being reported that Kurtzman is in final negotiations to direct the first of the rebooted monster flicks, The Mummy, himself.
