The Amazing Spider-Man 2

If you are still bitter about The Amazing Spider-Man 2, no one would really blame you, especially on account that the film got mixed to negative reviews, and is one of the lowest earnings Spider-Man films of the five that have been released. Though the $60 million weekend opening – it took almost a month and a half to reach over $200 domestically – and a $600 million worldwide gross isn’t a complete loss, the fact that the grossing numbers have been dwindling since the reboot isn’t exactly what Sony was hoping to see.

With Sinister Six and Venom spinoff films coming in the near future, all of which are interconnected to The Amazing Spider-Man canon, Sony is left to rethink their strategy for the franchise, which may actually include pushing The Amazing Spider-Man 3‘s release from 2016 to 2017. Hit the jump for more.

Sinister Six

Sony Pictures’ long-term plans for its blockbuster Spider-Man franchise have been getting bigger with each week that brings us a new image, trailer, or poster for their upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Last week alone we were treated to a new banner poster and first trailer that revealed Marvel Comics’ classic arachnid-powered superhero (Andrew Garfield) would be taking on at least three new villains in Electro (Jamie Foxx), the Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and most unexpectedly Spidey’s old friend Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) suiting up as either the Green Goblin or a Goblin-like baddie of some variation. Early reports indicated that the events of Amazing Spider-Man 2 would be setting up the first appearance of the super-villain collective the Sinister Six in a future sequel.

Sleepy Hollow Fox TV series

Sleepy Hollow, one of Fox’s new series, is definitely my most anticipated new Fall television show. I already got a chance to watch the pilot, and I totally loved it. The series is based on Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, but here it has a modern twist where Ichabod Crane is a soldier resurrected in present-day and there’s a murderous Headless Horseman riding through the streets of the quaint New York village.

Fox has released a few clips from the pilot, which you can watch here below.

Sleepy Hollow airs tonight on Fox at 9pm.

Locke & Key Television Series

You read that right, my friends. Universal Pictures just snagged the options to the bestselling comic series Locke & Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. In other words, they are looking to turn this awesome comic into a feature film! Now, I’ve loved the series since the beginning and I’ve got to say, this movie could easily shame a lot of the big comic films we have seen in the last few years.

Looking to produce this through Universal-based K/O Paper Products, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Bobby Cohen have teamed with IDW’s CEO Ted Allen who is also being listed as producer on this project. That’s a lot of pull to get the job done. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I was pretty jazzed to hear this today. We all know how Fox kind of dropped the ball on giving us a version for television with Steven Spielberg, not to mention MTV and SyFy passing on it, too. Luckily, it was Kurtzman and Orci (of Star Trek, Fringe and Transformers fame) who have remained dedicated to getting this off the ground. Their vigilance seems to have paid off finally. And I have to say, I think I’d rather see a feature length film than something scaled down for television anyway. And if everything goes well, word has it they might be looking at a trilogy of films!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Marc Webb, the director of next year’s web-slingin’ sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, has done a stand-out job keeping us posted on the production of the film via Twitter. Recently we’ve seen the first photos of Jamie Foxx as the villain Electro. Inevitably we would soon get a glimpse of Paul Giamatti as the second half of the movie’s super-powered baddie tag team, the Rhino.

True to form, Webb has now granted us the first photo of Giamatti in character and in action as the Rhino. You can check it out here below.
