| $5 MP3 Album Deal: Alice in Chains ‘Unplugged’ |
|
As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals for September 2013, Alice in Chains‘s live album Unplugged is on sale for only $5 in MP3 format. The album, originally released in July 1996, was recorded live at Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Majestic Theatre as part of MTV’s popular MTV Unplugged concert series. Unplugged contained haunting acoustic versions of the band’s most popular songs, like “Down In A Hole,” “Rooster,” “No Excuses,” “Would?,” and “Got Me Wrong.” Alice In Chain’s contribution to the Unplugged series was definitely one of the best, and for me, these versions are right up there with the originals. The album is also available for only $14.99 as a CD+DVD, which contains the live CD along with the MTV Unplugged concert DVD, and is an AutoRip, which means that with this purchase, you also get a free MP3 version. Browse the main sale page to see all 100 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of September 2013.

| $5 MP3 Album Deal: Alice in Chains ‘Unplugged’ |
|
As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals for September 2012, Alice in Chains‘s Unplugged is on sale for only $5. Hard to believe 16 years have gone by since Alice in Chains recorded this live album in the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Majestic Theatre. It was one the band’s last appearances with singer Layne Staley, the toll of his drug addiction obvious in his sickly pale face and emaciated body, though not in his voice. This Unplugged album is not some diluted version of a plugged-in Alice in Chains, but more of a soulful retrospective, quieted down for a deeper experience. Included on the album are all the songs you know, like “No Excuses,” “Rooster,” “Would?,” “Down In A Hole,” and “Got Me Wrong.” There’s also the CD+DVD that contains the live CD along with the MTV Unplugged concert DVD. Browse the main sale page to see the other 99 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of September 2012.

| Remembering Grunge Pioneers Kurt Cobain & Layne StaleyThere are two tragic rock and roll death anniversaries to remember today, April 5, both for key figures in the early 1990s Seattle grunge music scene: Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who died 18 years ago, and Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley, who died 10 years ago. Both bands (along with a few others) were instrumental in changing the face of a musical style and generation that was choked by heavy metal, second generation glam, tepid pop music, and unoriginality in many forms in the musical universe during the late 1980s. Nirvana came into that stifled world like a dirty, grungy tidal wave, washing over all the aforementioned genres in a river filled with glass and soot, which was exactly the approach they wanted to take.
