Avengers: Infinity War title card

It is looking as if Marvel Studios’ two-part, all-star superhero epic Avengers: Infinity War is going to be bigger than we have been compelled to anticipate. Marvel chose today to drop a few of their patented news grenades on the unsuspecting interwebs, including Emily Van Camp’s casting and Paul Rudd and William Hurt’s reprising their Marvel Cinematic Universe roles in next year’s Captain America: Civil War. But one of their biggest announcements is that Infinity War will make cinematic history by being the first feature film to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.

Directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo will employ the revolutionary next generation IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera to film both parts of Infinity War after first using it for select action sequences in Civil War. Apparently normal-sized theater screens will no longer be sufficient to contain the widescreen excitement of the MCU. Go figure.

Avengers: infinity War

Marvel Studios’ Avengers plan was ambitious, but it was a gamble that paid off, and come 2018 and 2019, it will all come together for the two-part film Avengers: Infinity War. The film is said to bring all the heroes of the solo features, and probably Guardians of the Galaxy and maybe the television shows for one mega-ensemble fight against Thanos, The Mad Titan.

Since Avengers: Infinity War is being split into two parts, production is going to be one massive undertaking, with the logistics of getting everyone’s schedules coordinated not only during scheduled shooting but also for re-shoots and the inevitable ADR.

Now Captain America himself is confirming that the shooting on the two films will be lengthy. According to Chris Evans, filming both parts of Avengers: Infinity War could take as long as nine months to complete.

Joe and Anthony Russo

Less than a month away from the release of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron comes the announcement that Joe and Anthony Russo will be directing the Avengers: Infinity War two-part film. It was actually reported last month that the sibling directors were in the running to helm the film, but now Disney and Marvel have confirmed the news in a new press released that was posted on the Marvel website.

The Russos first made their Marvel Studio debut with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a film that grossed $714 million worldwide. Eventually they would sign on to direct the film’s sequel, Captain America: Civil War, which will bring Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark character into Captain America’s story in a much larger capacity than a simple cameo. The film will also introduce Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it is rumored that Spider-Man, who Marvel gained permission to use after a deal with Sony was agreed upon back in February, will make his big screen MCU debut in the film.

Anthony and Joe Russo will direct The Avengers: Infinity War

One thing Marvel Studios adores almost as much as reaping those massive box office returns and being the dominant blockbuster factory on the planet is handing some genuinely talented directors with zilch for proven track records the reins to their mega-budget tentpole properties. They also love consistency, so with Joss Whedon vacating the director’s chair on the studio’s epic, two-part Phase Three crossover event The Avengers: Infinity War, it looks as if the job has been officially secured by Anthony and Joe Russo.
