Happy 57th Birthday To Tom Hanks!

Tom Hanks

A tip of the birthday hat goes to one of the biggest superstars to come out of the modern age of Hollywood, Tom Hanks, who not only is a supernova of a presence in many forms of mediums, but is also considered one of the great actors and comedians of that modern era as well.

Imbued with a kind of metaphorical force majeure, the widespread appeal of Tom Hanks stretches to all four corners of the globe. Even early in his career, as the sarcastic, Bill Murrayesque character (sometimes in drag) on the late 1970s-early 1980s sitcom, Bosom Buddies, there was an ease about Hanks; it seemed as if he’d been a star for years. He exuded a confidence and hilarity that made a role like the one he played in an early picture he was in – Ron Howard’s Splash – ebullient, effused with the Hanks chipper formula, and elevated that film’s character from what could have been a manifestation of milquetoast into an everyman that the audience cares about. It set the template for the Hanks’ character to come in countless cinematic vehicles that followed (Bachelor Party, The Money Pit, the hyper success Big, the obscure Volunteers, The Man With One Red Shoe, and The Burbs among many others).

The Greatest TV Shows Ever: ‘Band of Brothers’

Band Of Brothers along with bonus disc The Pacific Part One is on sale today til midnight PST for 63% off with the Blu-ray for $36.99, DVD for 29.99.

Had a certain Führer had his nasty little moustachioed way with Europe and claimed victory, establishing a power to take over the world, we would be living very differently today. Thanks to the soldiers who fought in World War II, constantly putting their own lives in danger to serve their countries, these men conquered that nasty little German bastard. These men are heroes, who were just doing their job, saving the world.

Band of Brothers is a ten-part series about the lives of a group of these war heroes. It focuses on ‘E’ (Easy) Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airbourne of the U.S. Army as they train, prepare, and take to the frontlines in France, Belgium, and Germany — where they captured Hitler’s ‘Eagle’s Nest’ retreat. The training was punishing and unrelenting, which served to make the men of easy company some of the leanest and meanest going to war.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks (who also has writing and directing credits on a couple of episodes) are executive producers. The director and star of one of the greatest movies about the World War II — Saving Private Ryan — keep Band of Brothers in a similar vein. The action scenes are furious and each episodes’ director keeps the danger ever present.

A Look Into Steven Spielberg & Tom Hanks’ New WWII Drama ‘The Pacific’

The Pacific

No one on this planet can make one argument against Steven Spielberg‘s Saving Private Ryan being the greatest World War II movie of all time. You may like others more than it, but there is just simply no other title that is better than it or more graphically realistic and accurate as it is. Very few movies can affect a human being as that movie has, especially for those who lived that hell in their youths. After Ryan, as we all know, Spielberg and Tom Hanks followed the movie up with one of those most respected and acclaimed mini-series of all time in the HBO special Band of Brothers, which returned them to the war fronts.

Now the duo is revving up for their long-awaited new WWII mini-series entitled The Pacific, which will also air on HBO. It will obviously have a very similar tone to the stories of Band of Brothers, but the two are not related at all, and are both based on separate real-life accounts. A couple of videos have been released so far that you can check out at HBO, but below is a brand new video that takes us behind-the-scenes for some information on the show, complete with words from Hanks and Spielberg themselves.

‘Mad Max 4’ Grabs Charlize Theron & Tom Hardy For Leads

Mad Max

Just this week, we were treated to a brief glimpse of some of the vehicles that series writer and director George Miller was having constructed for his long-awaited fourth chapter in the Mad Max franchise, which is being called Fury Road. During that interview, Miller stated that they were in the process of casting but had no idea who would be chosen yet. Whether that was the truth or not is unknown, but it did not take long to find out that two actors have indeed been chosen. It’s being reported that Academy Award winner Charlize Theron and up-and-comer Tom Hardy have been cast in the lead roles.

Hardy will be filling the large shoes once occupied by Mel Gibson as the vengeful post-apocalyptic hero, Max. Theron will be taking the female lead in which details are not yet known. The movie is said to be a sequel, taking place a short time after the events of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. This means that the hopes for a Gibson cameo as the original Max is unlikely, but a cameo as someone else could still be put together for amusement purposes.
