Filming began this weekend on Batman vs. Superman, Zack Snyder‘s follow-up to this year’s Man Of Steel, with a Gotham City vs. Metropolis football game sequence.

Snyder and crew — minus the big-named stars — filmed scenes for the 2015 Superman sequel at East Los Angeles College’s Weingart Stadium on October 19, 2013 at halftime during the school’s football game against Victor Valley College. The stadium served as the backdrop for a football game between Gotham City University (from the Batman universe) and its rival Metropolis State University (from the Superman universe).

Batman-News obtained images of the two football jerseys, which you can see here below. Also below is a 4-minute video of some of the filming.

Any sort of changes to an established comic book hero like Superman will be controversial in some shape or form. Some say that the third act of Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel contained needless destruction, but the pinnacle act that was the most polarizing was what happened between Superman and General Zod at the end of the film.

The announcement last month that Ben Affleck will play Batman in Batman vs Superman, Zack Snyder’s sequel to this summer’s Man Of Steel, set off a lot of sparks from fans who just couldn’t get behind the Argo actor as the Dark Knight.

But, among the negative reactions were plenty of people expressing their delight at the news and their support for Affleck, like comedian Patton Oswalt. If you’re one of these people, then there’s a shirt for you!

Of all the notable members of the Justice League, Batman is the most vulnerable due to his lack of superpowers. Of course he makes up for it all with his detective skills and training. We saw what a Batman who has past his prime looks like in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises. Forced out of retirement, and in his obviously weak and hobbled condition, Batman was thrust back into the crimefighting world, and nearly got killed.

We know that Ben Affleck will be playing an older and more experienced Batman in Batman vs Superman, the tentatively titled Man of Steel sequel, but now we are now learning how long Zack Snyder‘s iteration of Batman has been in the crimefighting game.

Warner Brothers and DC Comics had taken the first steps to building their DC Cinematic Universe franchise with Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. While the film did produce mixed results, it grossed more than enough for WB to plan out the future for other DC properties. Just a few weeks ago, we confirmed that Ben Affleck was cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the sequel, currently known as Batman vs. Superman. Little is known about the film itself, but what we do know is that Batman will be in it, and as the rumored title suggests, it’s likely that these two heroes will fight against each other at some point in the movie.

But how will all of that look? Well that’s for Larry Fong to decide as he has been rumored to have been brought in to work on the cinematography for the film.
