It’s been a long, long time that people have wondered when we would see Wonder Woman back on the screen. Many attempts have been made—some on the big screen, some on the small—with none ever working out. It seemed like this legendary and iconic superhero was destined to fail time and time again.

But now all of that changes. It’s being reported that an actress has been chosen to play Wonder Woman, though it will not be in her own movie…at least not yet. This Wonder Woman will appear in Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel sequel, currently being called Batman vs. Superman.

Almost immediately after it was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year that the sequel to Man of Steel would feature Batman, it was unofficially dubbed Batman vs Superman based on some key dialogue read from the graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns which featured Batman and Superman in an epic battle. The film has yet to receive an official title from Warner Bros; however, a recent slate of website domain registrations by Warner Bros may point to a possible official title.

This past weekend, Kevin Smith moderated a chat for Yahoo! to help promote the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. Both the director and star Amy Adams were in attendance to talk to fans about the film. But as you can imagine, a lot of their attention was focused on the planned sequel, Batman Vs. Superman. Well there were a new nuggets of information that were dropped in regards to the sequel, one involving a possible villain and another bit of news, which was made on Smith’s Smodcast, was about Batman’s suit.

While Luthor didn’t make an appearance in Man Of Steel, Snyder decided that putting his name on a building would be a nice Easter Egg for the fans; the same way that Snyder put a Wayne Enterprises satellite in the film.

One thing we didn’t see coming was Zack Snyder casting Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman vs. Superman. It was certainly one of the most polarizing casting decisions made this year. But when Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara started to describe this iteration of Batman and said that it would be completely different from the rest because he was “tired and weary,” the casting decision made more sense.

With the actor shooting David Fincher’s Gone Girl, Affleck had some time to talk about Batman, his initial reluctance to take the role, and how his take on the character will be a surprise to the audience.

Batman vs. Superman will lay the foundation for the Justice League. Just as its title suggests, Batman will be introduced into the DC Cinematic Universe that Zack Snyder has created. Tiny Easter Eggs were laid throughout the Man of Steel, but could we expect to see a female superhero like Wonder Woman in Batman vs. Superman? One Warner Bros. executive suggests that she won’t appear.

After all the troubles of getting a Wonder Woman film off the ground – we all remember how DC treated Joss Whedon’s treatment of the heroine – what could be the problem? Surely it’s not the solo Catwoman movie or Elektra? But a film like Batman vs. Superman would be a great proving ground for getting a solo female superhero movie into production, so why not just do something as simple as introduce Wonder Woman into the film?
