Child's Play Reboot

Child’s Play (2019)
Directed by Lars Klevberg
Written by Tyler Burton Smith
Starring Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Brian Tyree Henry, Mark Hamill
Orion Pictures
Rated R | 90 minutes
Release date: June 21, 2019

The 1988 Tom Holland/Don Mancini Child’s Play took a ridiculous premise and elevated it to classic horror status thanks to a great cast, tremendous practical effects, and Brad Dourif’s iconic voice acting as Chucky. While that franchise continues to find new life on Blu-ray and TV, director Lars Klevberg and Orion rebooted the killer doll franchise with a movie that many hate and rip on general principle. Yet it’s perhaps thanks to having zero expectations that the updated Child’s Play is really freaking entertaining.

Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

2014’s Godzilla brought back the Kaiju craze for a more modern audience. It reintroduced what made the towering reptile so iconic by blending in themes of the old with the new. But with director Gareth Edwards stepping aside, it was up to Krampus and Trick r’ Treat director Michael Dougherty to take over and continue the story of this new monsters universe. And he does that by making Godzilla: King of the Monsters one giant-sized monster brawl. The highly anticipated sequel brings a battery of god-sized monsters including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, a giant moth-like Kaiju; Rodan, a Pteranodon-like Kaiju; and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah into one massive brawl leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

We had a chance to sit down at a press conference with our fellow journalists to talk about the development and production of Godzilla: King of the Monsters with Dougherty. During that time, he spoke about the inspirations behind the film, what it was like to destroy Boston’s Fenway Park, and what representation means to him. Check out what he had to say below.

Hatchet-Victor Crowley

With filming set to kick off this week near Louisiana, the services of a handful of talents have been enlisted for Hatchet III, the third installment in the saga of feared swamp dweller Victor Crowley.

It’s been announced that a trio of new actors have joined the cast, starting with ’80s star Zach Galligan. The actor is best known for playing the lead in the beloved 1984 Joe Dante horror-fantasy Gremlins, as well as Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Galligan also starred in Waxwork and its sequel, and has continued acting in small-budget features with short TV stints sprinkled in here and there since then.

Also joining the cast is Cody Blue Snider, the son of Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider, and popular geek goddess Rileah Vanderbilt.

Week of Geek: SDCC 2011 Coverage - San Diego Comic Con

SDCC 2011: Knights of Badassdom: Peter Dinklage

In case you missed the recently released trailer, Knights of Badassdom looks like it might just possibly become the greatest movie ever made.

It tells the story of two heavily involved LARPing (Live Action Role Playing) enthusiasts (played by Peter Dinklage and Steve Zahn) who bring their recently single friend (Ryan Kwanten) in to experience the joys of the LARP…which he doesn’t seem to be too big on. But when Zahn’s character accidentally summons a succubus and things become ooey–gooey evil, the LARPers must join forces with others like them and use their “skills” to defeat the beast.

Keep reading for more and to see some images from the Knights of Badassdom panel.
