The villains in Disney animated classics have almost always been paired with some sort of dim-witted buffoon for a sidekick. Whether they are there to help with something nefarious or boosting the lead villain’s ego, you can count on them to be the source of comic relief. So not to anyone’s surprise, when Josh Gad earned a part in Bill Condon‘s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, he took the part of Lefou, Gaston’s (to be played by Luke Evans) sidekick. You might not have noticed this, but Disney is pretty big on turning all of their animated fairy tale classics into new live action box office blockbusters. Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and so on—they’ve all been adapted into live action movies in recent years or are currently in the process of being adapted into movies.

Another one of their classics being adapted into a live action feature is arguably their very best animated fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. The latest casting to be announced for the movie is the villain and push-up master Gaston. It’s being reported that Luke Evans, who was recently seen playing Dracula in the origins movie Dracula Untold, has entered into negotiations to play the ever narcissistic antagonist.

We learned last month that Harry Potter star Emma Watson was cast as Belle in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. But who will play Beast to Watson’s Belle?

If Disney has their way, it will be Ryan Gosling.

The Drive actor was reportedly offered the role of the Beast, according to Tracking Board, which added that Gosling was the studio’s top choice for the part.

Following Maleficent and the upcoming Cinderella and The Jungle Book, Disney will be releasing a live-action version of Beauty and the Beast. Directed by Bill Condon (DreamGirls), the film will join Disney’s trend of transforming their hit animated films into live-action ones.

Emma Watson will be joining the cast as Belle, the Walt Disney Studios announced today, adding that production for the film is anticipated to begin later this year. The actress also posted about her casting today via her Facebook page, and may have revealed a few other things about the film as well. Hit the jump for more.

Recently a man decided to declare to Gaston from Beauty and the Beast at Walt Disney World that he was in fact stronger than him. LeFou immediately fainted.

Gaston of course was having none of this, and asked the man what his challenge was to prove such a claim. The response: push-up contest! It did not end well for the man.
