| UPDATED! The People Have Spoken: Betty White To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’ |
|
UPDATE: This has officially been confirmed by AP. Betty White will host SNL on May 8, 2010, which is Mother’s Day weekend. Perfect! Early last month, we shared with you a fan-fueled mission to find a way to get Golden Girls star Betty White to host an episode of Saturday Night Live (Read: Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It: Make Betty White An SNL Host!). A special Facebook page was created for the job, and when we wrote about it then, it had 200,000 supporters. Now, it has almost 500,000 supporters, and the question looms larger than it ever has before: will Betty White get to host some SNL for us? According to People, the answer to this question is yes. Speaking to the 88-year-old actress while she attended Elton John’s annual Oscars after-party, they seized the opportunity to ask her if she would be doing it, and she answered with a simple “yes.” And when they then went on to ask her what she thought of this random explosion of fan support, she replied “I don’t know why or how, but it’s been wonderful.”

| Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It: Make Betty White An SNL Host!
Another movement has begun, and it is a matter of life and death, people. The fans have decided that Betty White, star of The Golden Girls and universally awesome grandmother to us all, needs to be allowed to host Saturday Night Live. The movement started on Facebook, where almost 200,000 fans have joined the Betty White to Host SNL page in an attempt to grab the attention of executives at NBC,and persuade them to bring her in immediately. SNL still has a faithful fan-base, but has not been getting laughs like they used to. It could be the writers; it could be the current cast, but for some reason, that strong level of funny has been completely M.I.A. The studio hasn’t had the most support lately, either; after the Conan O’Brien/Tonight Show fiasco, this would also be a chance for them to win some fans back. Does this really require any amount of thought, NBC!?

| Video Humor: Betty White Acceptance Speech At The SAG AwardsLast week, veteran actress Betty White took the stage at the The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award. You can watch the 3-minute video here below of White’s acceptance speech — and I highly suggest you do. I’ve tagged this post as “humor” — because trust me, White is a riot and you’ll laugh because she’s genuinely funny (not because she’s a ‘sweet old lady.’) But, I have to warn you — as funny as it is, is how endearing it was as well. I found myself getting quite teary-eyed when the 88-year-old Golden Girls actress talked about how she still had many more years left in her professional career and what getting this award meant to her. The award was presented to White by her Proposal co-star Sandra Bullock (you’ll also find out what White thinks of Bullock, who controversially just won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in The Blind Side).

| Video: Betty White Plays Beer Pong With Jimmy FallonIs there anyone out there who doesn’t like Betty White? I didn’t think so. White made an appearance this week on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon where the 87-year-old beloved actress went up against the host in a game of Beer Pong. I suggest you take a moment to watch the clip here below; it’s funny and quite enjoyable. I think I could have watched like an hour of Betty White playing Beer Pong. And I love how the audience loved White too, screaming her name like she was a rock star. Awesome. White was promoting her new movie The Proposal, a rom-com starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds that I probably wouldn’t have given a second glance to had it not been for White’s role in it.
