Happy Death Day 2U
Director: Christopher Landon
Writers: Christopher Landon
Cast: Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, Suraj Sharma, Ruby Modine
Studio: Universal Pictures
Rated PG-13 | 100 Minutes
Release Date: February 13, 2019 Christopher Landon‘s first Happy Death Day was a darkly fun and hilarious slasher spin on the Groundhog Day concept. In it, a vain and selfish Tree (Jessica Rothe) found herself reliving her murder on her birthday over and over again. Though there wasn’t much more to it than that, it was still smart enough to borrow, blend, and subvert elements from other slasher and time loop films to make for a very entertaining guilty pleasure watch. Along with Rothe’s energetic performance, audiences stayed glued to the screen to watch how she would get out of her time loop and figure out who her killer was. Now everyone is back for Happy Death Day 2U. While the sequel’s humor may not work quite as well as it did in the first, and it does stray away from the slasher mystery bit, it does take Tree’s character arc in a new direction by taking a surprisingly emotional turn and using a more geeked out concept by adding in some Back to the Future Part II to keep the deja vu concept going.

| ‘Happy Death Day 2U’ Trailer: Babyfaced Killer Comes Back For More Birthday Fun
It’s not every day that you get to die on your birthday and then come back to life only to relive the same horrible moment. Universal and Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day was a twisted take on the Groundhog Day concept that turned out to be a hit. As such a sequel was greenlit. Of course, it couldn’t follow the same old plot. Now it will be up to Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) to rescue her friends from certain death. Only thing is, if she dies, she may not be able to come back to save them. Check out the newest trailer for Happy Death Day 2U, below.

Happy Death Day
Directed by Christopher Landon
Written by Scott Lobdell
Starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, Laura Clifton, Rob Mello
Blumhouse Productions
Rated R | 96 Minutes
Release Date: October 13, 2017 If you’ve watched the trailer for Happy Death Day, then you know exactly what you are walking into. The writer and director make no effort to hide their influences, to the point of literally name-dropping Groundhog Day and Bill Murray IN the movie. One character’s last name is even credited as “Spengler” (Harold Ramis was Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters). That said, if you’re gonna walk the line between parody and homage, you better be careful and to their credit, writer Scott Lobdell and director Christopher Landon do a pretty great job. In order for this to work, like Groundhog Day, the lead character and actor playing them has to be convincing. While I’m not comparing Happy Death Day‘s Jessica Rothe to Bill Murray, she does do one hell of a job here and the results are a perfect little 95-minute meta-slasher film right in time for Halloween.

| Interview: ‘Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse’ Cast |
|
Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse isn’t your traditional zombie film. The horror comedy follows three boy scouts: Ben, Carter, and Augie (Ty Sheridan, Logan Miller, and Joey Morgan, respectively) and a strip club cocktail waitress, Denise (Sarah Dumont) as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse. Using their skills that they learned from boy scouts, plus Denise’s knowledge of guns, the four set out to find any fellow survivors and rescue high school seniors from the horde of zombies (ranging from humans to zombie cats) that are about to crash their seniors-only party. Geeks Of Doom was recently invited to sit down with Sarah Dumont, Logan Miller, and Joey Morgan to talk about, well anything, from porn, to what they did to build chemistry. They also talked about what they learned from working on Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse — which hits theaters his Halloween — how they had to deal with some unruly cats, and how they would use what they learned to survive the zombie apocalypse. Check out our full interview here below.

| Watch ‘Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse’ Trailer!Once in a while the zombie apocalypse gets a comedic twist (Shaun of the Dead), which is something a bit refreshing considering the genre’s subject matter (a group of survivors forced to work together against a hoard of zombies). Paramount has just released the first trailer for Christopher Landon‘s Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse, starring Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life, X-Men: Apocalypse), David Koechner (Anchorman, Piranha 3DD), Logan Miller (Night Moves, The Stanford Prison Experiment), Halston Sage (Neighbors, Paper Towns), Joey Morgan, Patrick Schwarzenegger (Grown Ups 2, Dear Eleanor), and Cloris Leachman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Young Frankenstein).
