You might recall recently, on the last day of 2011, we had a look at the music from 25 years ago – our personal choices from the albums of 1986. Now we’re into 2012, the Social Blend podcast has decided to look at the music from 25 years before now: 1987 in music, which was a huge years for the rock and metal scenes. Craniumelody, which is the music issue of the SB podcast, travels back in the time machine with some tunes from 1987 – including The Cult, Choirboys, Celtic Frost, Midnight Oil, Grateful Dead, Sonic Youth, and more.

As long as there have been creepy and spooky stories, there has been the music accompanying it. From the days of folklore, to the modern horror or thriller movie, eerie music has always been closely connected to it. In fact, there are elements in the music industry that have since based their entire careers or images upon the scary tales, whether they’ve recorded for soundtracks or not. This week, the podcast Social Blend has another of our Craniumelody music specials, this time looking at the theme of Halloween music. We made a selection of tunes that fit perfectly in the realm of disturbing, dark, and sinister story-telling.

| GREAT SCOTT! Social Blend Podcast Travels Back In Time To 1986 |

Here at Geeks Of Doom, we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of some of the great music that was released in 1986. It was a big year for music, notably the genre of metal, with major groundbreaking releases coming out from Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and much more. Over the next few weeks, you’ll be seeing some 1986 music flashback-related posts popping up here at Geeks of Doom, and to help keep the theme going, we decided to join forces with the Social Blend and get some tunes crankin’ in the lead up to some of these upcoming posts. Social Blend mainly focuses on news and stories posted at Mixx.com, but every couple of months we do a special music edition of the show called CRANIUMELODY. Essentially we try and select some obscure and underrated songs for people to check out, and other times we make selections based on a topic or theme for the show.
