President Barack Obama To Appear On Upcoming Episode Of ‘Mythbusters’

It’s been announced that Discovery Channel’s popular proven-by-science show, Mythbusters, will have itself an interesting special guest during an upcoming episode: President Barack Obama.

The White House has revealed that Obama has already filmed the segment, and that the episode he’s set to appear on will air on December 8, 2010. The President is taking part with the show in an effort to better promote math and science education in the United States.

And what will be up for busting on this special episode of Mythbusters? An old foe, of course. On two separate occasions, the team has attempted to prove whether or not Archimedes, a Greek scientist, was able to set fire to the ships of an Roman fleet that was attacking just by using a collection of mirrors and the sun’s rays. Twice now this is something that has been busted, but the show has laid down the challenge to anyone to prove otherwise. Perhaps someone has done just that and this will be their stage to show how.

Discovery Channel’s ‘Deadliest Catch’ Loses Three More Captains

Things have not gone so smoothly for the hit Discovery Channel reality show, Deadliest Catch, as of late. Most people are aware of the terrible loss of Captain Phil Harris, but after the emotional episodes that documented that loss, the emotions seemed to turn from sadness to anger rather quickly. A heated dispute and lawsuit threat has now led to the departure of three more captains from the show.

For those of you who are unaware of the situation, allow us to first fill you in. It all started not too long ago when it was reported that the network was planning to sue cast members and brothers Andy Hillstrand and Johnathan Hillstrand, Co-Captains of the Time Bandit, who were doing work on a planned spinoff series called Hillstranded. According to Discovery, the brothers failed to complete work on the spinoff, forcing them to sue for $3 million. The Hillstrand brothers’ lawyer, Jeff Cohen, claimed that this was an act of extortion on his clients, and that they would have to sell their boats and fire their crews if the lawsuit was presented.

Shark Week!

Nothing more needs to be said than that, ladies and gentlemen. It’s finally that time of year again, and we wanted to take the chance to remind you that SHARK WEEK begins tomorrow night on Discovery Channel.

If you’re as infatuated with sharks as most people are, then Shark Week is a traditional religious experience, like our own week-long holiday celebration of these fascinating beasts, their many different species and tendencies, and the constant efforts to learn more and more about their existence on our great planet.

As always, the week will be jam-packed with shark specials, and the week will start off right tomorrow night at 9pm with Ultimate Air Jaws. If you haven’t seen them you must immediately, but Air Jaws 1 & 2 takes a crew to the famed Seal Island off the coast of South Africa. In this very special location, Great White sharks have evolved themselves to shoot up from deep within the ocean and jump completely out of the water in an attempt to nab a seal. If you thought it was cool to see a dolphin or whale leap from the water, there’s really nothing like seeing a Great White — who aren’t known for doing so — pull it off. These Whites are like the superheroes of their species.

Quick Reminder: Shark Week Is Happening NOW!

Great White

The Discovery Channel‘s most popular week of the year is without doubt the massive Shark Week. Even though the hugely-popular traditional summer event began last night, we wanted to send a quick little reminder to all of you who may still be unaware that it’s going on right this moment!

Shark Week is now on its 22nd annual broadcast, and just like every other year, they have some vicious and awesome new shows that the shark fan in all of us just can’t miss.

Their main event of the week is a special called Blood in the Water. The two-hour show tells the story of a multitude of shark attacks in New Jersey in 1916. These events were the actual events that inspired Steven Spielberg’s classic ocean horror movie, Jaws. The events were also at a time when people just didn’t know anything about these sea monsters, so as you can imagine, mass chaos ensued.

Video: Will Ferrell On ‘Man Vs. Wild’

Hey, Will Ferrell has a new movie coming out this week, have you heard? Yes, Land of the Lost comes out on Friday June 5, and of course he’s going around the normal talk show circuit. Sure, he’s been on Conan O’Brien this week, he hosted the season finale of Saturday Night Live, I’m sure he’s been on the Today Show, and a bunch of other ones, but the most interesting show for Will Ferrell to guest star on has got to be this week’s special episode of Man Vs Wild, this week called Men Vs Wild.

The episode premiered Tuesday on the Discovery Channel, but if you missed it, it will be re-airing tonight at 9pm and midnight ET/PT (get your TiVO/DVRs ready). Check out some videos from the episode here below.

For those who don’t know the show, Man Vs Wild follows British Special Forces badass Bear Grylls as he gets stranded in remote areas of the world and has to live off the land, find some form of local wildlife to eat, and show us normal folk how to survive our way back to civilization. In this special episode, Bear and Will are dropped into Sweden, and have to survive freezing temperatures, walking through snow drifts, and eating a reindeer. If you’re a fan of Will Ferrell, you’ll want to catch this episode and if you’re a fan of Man Vs Wild, well of course you’ll want to catch it, if only to see how a normal, fairly athletic guy deals with what Bear goes through. Plus, this has to be one of the best movie promo ideas I’ve ever seen.
