Fans of the popular Cartoon Network animated series The Clone Wars were pretty upset when it was announced that the show was being cancelled, but we knew that they were also already planning a new Star Wars animated series to replace it and possibly fill that void.

The show will be called Star Wars Rebels and it is coming to Disney XD, currently planned for a fall of 2014 arrival.

Tron: Uprising, an arrestingly-captivating new animated original series on the Disney XD channel, brings viewers back into the grid with the dynamic visuals, electrifying music and gripping storytelling that rekindled audiences with digital dazzle in Tron: Legacy.

Set between the original Tron and Tron: Legacy, Tron: Uprising focuses on mechanic-turned-renegade Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), a deft programmer living in the stunning Argon City. Beck’s free-thinking society is soon threatened by the menacing General Tesler (Lance Henriksen), one of the evil CLU’s cohorts, who aims to take charge of the metropolis. Once his friend is “derezzed,” or the Tron version of someone being killed, Beck avenges his death by disguising himself as believed-to-be-dead hero Tron and inspiring a revolution. In the intense prologue special, “Beck’s Beginning,” we see this as almost an origins story, provided with heavy exposition to better understand the characters and storyline.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes: The Avengers

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was a welcome surprise from Marvel Studios. It’s an animated series that’s crafted in such a way that fans of all ages can enjoy it. The series is on Disney XD which is a difficult sell to any fan above a certain demographic, but if you just hold your breath and flip over there the show will impress. Hardcore comic book fans will see the show is loosely based on Brian Michael Bendis’s Avenger’s Disassembled story arc, or at least the aftermath of that story. At any rate, the series features classic Avengers heroes on the team including Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, The Wasp, Ant Man/Giant Man, Hawkeye, and Black Panther.

If you aren’t the type to set foot in Disney kidville, then you can still see the show because Disney has announced that the first 13 episodes are coming to DVD, conveniently broken up into two volumes. Episodes 1 – 7 will be in Volume 1 and Episodes 8 – 13 will be presented in Volume 2. Both sets will be available on DVD April 26, 2011. At this point the only bonus feature we know of is a look at the upcoming Season 2 on the second volume.

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Preview 04

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is Marvel’s latest animated endeavor and it’s their best in many years. Marvel sent us some screen captures from this Sunday’s episode, so check them out here below.

Try to block out the tragedy that was the Saturday morning Avengers cartoon from several years back. The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes does a great job of walking the line between kid-friendly action fest and older adult fan storytelling. There’s a great serialized element to the show that is most often used to introduce a new hero or villain.

Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
Featuring the voices of Alex Desert, Phil Lamarr, Brian Bloom
Disney XD
Wednesday Nights
Release Date: October 20th, 2010

Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is Marvel’s second crack at the premier superhero team in the animation world. The first series, Avengers: United They Stand, was an honest attempt to make the concept work but that failed quickly, mostly due to the lack of presence from the more popular Avengers. Now, with the Avengers movie just around the corner, Marvel is dead set to make a cartoon worthy of the proposed blockbuster film.

The premise of the series harks back to the original concept of the comic book series. When a threat of epic proportions rears its ugly head, only the Avengers can save the day. In the original comic book, the threat was Thor’s evil brother Loki but in the cartoon, it is the breakout of various super-villains.

It seems an unknown individual has disassembled world police SHIELD’s securities systems and caused their systems to crash. As a result, four super prisons went offline allowing all sorts of villains to escape. Now, it is up Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to capture them all back.
