Pulp fiction is making a comeback! To be completely honest, I’m not sure if that is true or if I am just spouting alternative facts. Point is, I have been a fan of the Doc Savage franchise literally for decades and it’s resurgence is most exciting for me. This newest revival from Dynamite Entertainment comes in the form of Doc Savage: The Ring Of Fire #1!

Altered States: Doc Savage explores what the character of Doc Savage might be like if he was a caveman in prehistoric times. Not only that, but what if the Doc Savage of modern times (ok, the 1930s) was a prehistoric caveman. I’ve really enjoyed the Altered States specials so far, does this one stack up? Let’s take a look…

Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: December 24, 2014
Cover Price: $7.99

Doc Savage Special 2014 is a send-off of sorts to the Doc Savage title that Dynamite published through 2014. While it doesn’t focus on Doc himself specifically, he does play a pretty important role. But, I know you’re all wondering if this book is worth the $7.99 price tag or are you better off buying a coffee at Starbucks. Here’s my take…

I’ve been a fan of the Man of Bronze for over thirty years, having discovered one of the books in a local used bookstore. Those pulp stories were like gold (or maybe just bronze) to me. I still feel like the character is the literary equivalent of comics’ Batman. A normal man with perfectly honed skills, strength, and intellect. So it should come as no shock that I asked to review Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze #5 when I saw it in the review list. And being a long-time fan, I dove straight in. Here’s my take on this issue.

Release Date: February 26, 2014

Doc Savage #3 is where this title REALLY gets going. Without even realizing it the first two excellent issues have, while we thought they had just been stand alone stories, set up a great story that really gets moving in this issue.

Author Chris Roberson really kicks things up a notch in this issue. The first two issues have each taken place in a different decade, and this one is no different. Taking place in the early 1960s, Doc is ready to reveal the secret of his longevity and seeming lack of aging. But, of course, some people don’t want that secret revealed; they want it for themselves and for their own personal gain. As if dealing with that wasn’t enough, an old enemy turns up to literally take away everything Doc holds dear to him.
