Eli Roth Talks Using CG For Giant Shark Movie ‘MEG’

MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror

While many immediately cringe at the mention of CG effects being used in a movie, it’s hard to find a movie these days that doesn’t use them one way or another. The best we can hope for is the use of both practical and digital effects hand-in-hand, with more of the former visibly noticeable.

But sometimes CG is simply unavoidable. One such example of this is MEG, which features a giant megalodon shark. If you’re even a little familiar with JAWS and how much trouble Steven Spielberg had working with a mechanical shark for that, you understand how insane it would be to build and film a practical shark the size of a freakin’ city bus or bigger. The movie has been in the works for many years, and is currently in the middle of another attempt at finally making its way to the big screen with the recent news that Cabin Fever and Hostel director Eli Roth was set to make the movie for Warner Brothers. Roth spoke recently about using CG for the movie, and you can see what he had to say below.

Eli Roth Knock Knock Keanu Reeves

Oftentimes looks can be deceiving, but when it comes to two seemingly harmless women looking to get shelter from the pouring rain, one might think to offer them a helping hand by letting them in. Of course, sometimes those kind gestures can get you into some serious trouble, especially when it comes to Even (Keanu Reeves), a happily married man who gets into some trouble when two beautiful women (Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas) come knocking on his door.

Now Lionsgate has released a brand new trailer for Eli Roth’s latest film Knock Knock, showing what happens when temptation comes knocking. Check it out here below.

Eli Roth’s ‘The Green Inferno’ Finally Set For U.S. Release

The Green Inferno

It has been eight years since Eli Roth, once hailed as one of the new visionaries of cinematic horror, made his last feature, the little-seen (and criminally underrated) Hostel: Part II. Since then he’s kept busy and stayed visible as an actor (Inglourious Basterds) and producer (The Last Exorcism). The Green Inferno, Roth’s grisly paean to the Italian cannibal flicks of the ’70s and ’80s, completed filming two years ago and was originally scheduled for a theatrical release last September. Unfortunately, financial issues with its production company resulted in an indefinite delay.

Now it appears as if Inferno may finally see a release in theaters across the U.S. courtesy of Blumhouse Productions, the company behind the successful Paranormal Activity and Insidious franchises, and Universal Pictures. According to Deadline, Blumhouse’s multi-platform distribution arm BH Tilt, which was launched last year, will release The Green Inferno on about 1,000 screens later this fall along with Universal and High Top Releasing.

You can watch the latest Inferno trailer here below.
