Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #4 is why action/Sci-Fi comics were invented. Yes, I’m a total sucker for Flash Gordon, but that actually makes it HARDER to impress me when it comes to the property. I’ve seen SO many Flash Gordon reincarnations that have fallen so flat, and reading this book is a welcome return to one of my favorite super heroes ever.

Writer Eric Trautmann lays it on pretty thick in this issue. Talk about jam-packed!!! This is truly an old fashioned cliffhanger serial in comic book form. With a cliffhanger on almost every page, it’s a thrill a minute read that will have you biting your fingernails as you read it. What I love about this book is that every character is off on their own adventure, yet the story still weaves together.

Letters by Simon Bowland
Covers by Walter Geovani & Wagner Reis
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: February 22, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

In Red Sonja #64, there is undeniable proof that Sonja actually IS a She-Devil with a Sword. So, that’s settled.

Writer Eric Trautmann sure does his research. Red Sonja, as a character, is SO steeped in her own mythology that at times it must be overwhelming to come up with something brand new that hasn’t been told a million times over. In this issue, he executes his ability to come up with original ideas in spades. I’ve read a LOT of Red Sonja comics, and it’s very nice to have an issue that seems like you haven’t read it somewhere before.

Covesr by Alex Ross, Paul Renaud, and Francesco Francavilla
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: February 15, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Reading Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #3, I’m reminded why I love the character so much. It’s the ultimate fish out of water story, except the fish knows how to fight and has a sword and ray gun.

Since both Eric Trautmann amd Alex Ross are credited with the story, I guess I have to praise them both for coming up with, really, what this book is supposed to be. Remember movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark or Back to the Future 2, when there was a cliffhanger almost every two minutes? Imagine that kind of story, in comic form, and that’s what you have here. Absolutely edge of your seat reading. New characters are introduced, there’s danger everywhere. THIS is why the phrase “page-turner” was coined.

Release Date: January 4th, 2012

Wow. I didn’t think it was possible that Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #2 could get any better or more exciting than the first issue. Yet, the creative team proved me wrong. I think it’s a secret plot by them and Dynamite to get us all to wet our pants with excitement. And, it’s working.

If licensed comics got the respect they deserved, writer Eric Trautman would be a superstar. The writing on this book is unbelievable. The action starts inside the front cover and doesn’t stop until the last page. Just like last issue, Trautman packs SO MUCH into each page and panel that you’re going to want to read this issue a couple of times just to make sure you’ve gotten everything there is to get.

GoD List Banner

Each and (almost) every week “Mr. Fifth Di-WTF is he talking about-mension” MK2Fac3 and “Mr. I’m Too Pretty For Formatting” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of January 4, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Happy New Year, lads and lasses! In just a short amount of days, I’ll be sailing the seven seas, but let’s catch up for a moment. How did you spend your New Year’s Eve and Day? Did you eat your good luck charms? Did you spend the holidays drunk and hungover? That’s neat. I spent mine laying in bed with an illness that can only be described as velociraptor-esque. But I can tell you one thing, I cracked the code of the fifth dimension. It’s simple, you see. Because the fifth dimension is what determines our very existence. It’s all based on words. Words define our lives because without language and words, we would not be able to communicate. Well, maybe we could through art? Who knows, I was running a fever and hallucinating. Either way, though, comics consist of both art and words, so it’s the perfect medium! You know what I’m saying? GoD List. Baller cakes.
