Science fiction films, television, books, and comics are in some way inspired by our desire to explore the unknown. At the core of every Sci-Fi story is the discovery of a place or people that are strange and wholly unknown to us. The metallic monster crushing cities or the alien devouring a ship’s crew one by one kicks our imaginations into full gear. Every day we wake up, go to work, come home, and go to bed, then repeat the whole process again. We gravitate towards the bizarre and unknown because it is simply something different. Prophet is that something different we are all searching for at the end of the day. This is a comic that not only explores the unknown, but also embraces it with reckless intensity.

I’ve been reading comics for a while and I am always on the lookout for something new, and that is exactly what I got with Prophet #23. Prophet is an insanely cool comic book series that features a warrior who wakes up in a strange future filled with wondrous creatures. His mission? To restart a bunch of satellites that will put the human race back into action. All he has to complete his mission is a knife, a floating robot translator, and a strange piece of clothing that adapts to his every need, even if that need is a new arm. The last two issues have introduced us to the world of Prophet, and with this issue, we start to see the bigger picture of what is going on in this series.

Strange things are happening in London, England. There is a murderer going around killing prostitutes, the town’s men are being transformed into odd half-man half-sea creatures, and there is an overwhelming sense of doom in the air. With such odd occurrences, it isn’t safe for a young girl to walk about town, is it? Well that depends on who that girl is. In Mike Mignola and Troy Nixey‘s Jenny Finn: Doom Messiah, nothing is as it seems. Fisherman bring in the day’s catch on a London day like any other. The streets are bustling with people as a young girl named Jenny Finn makes her way around town. Jenny catches the attention of an out-of-towner named Joe who can’t help himself but to seek her out and introduce himself. He is concerned for her safety, as the treacherous streets of London are no place for an innocent young girl. Jenny agrees with him, but insists that she is far from innocent. Her reputation has made its way around town, and soon Joe will know that Jenny is a unique and complex individual.

| Marvel Teases The Return Of The Human Torch To The Fantastic Four
Marvel has been releasing preview images this week to announce the next big story for one of their flagship titles, Fantastic Four, and specifically the return the of currently left-for-dead Human Torch.
The images started on Monday with a simple “4” over a picture of the Earth, possibly signally a return of the original line up. We got a bit of a change up with Tuesday’s image, which showed the current team, complete with Spider-Man, in their Future Foundation uniforms. Wednesday brought us the big one though, with a big beautiful image of the original team, complete with Johnny Storm. Wednesday’s teaser was drawn by Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada. The only words in the announcement were a simple “Coming November 2011.”
