FNL Cast

In the course of its five-season run, Friday Night Lights has been a variety of things. The show has been a fantastic coming of age character study, a great sports drama, and a honest look into the reality and challenges of marriage.

It’s also one of the best television dramas ever.

The show focuses on the events surrounding a Texas high school football team, including the head coach and his family along with the players of the team. The series may have seemed like a typical high school drama at first, but it was quick to prove it was anything but.

In case you haven’t been following the madness of a proposed Wonder Woman anything, allow us to catch you up quickly!

First up came the hopes for a big feature film adaptation with Joss Whedon behind the script. This never worked out in the end. When a movie didn’t work, it was decided to try and make a new Wonder Woman TV series with showrunner David E. Kelley, but soon after that it was revealed that efforts to obtain positive attention on the show from networks was weak and the project was once again dead. Then, out of nowhere, NBC had one of their little urges, and decided to pick up the pilot episode of Wonder Woman for themselves and see where things went.

Now that you’re all caught up, all that’s left is who’s the actress to finally bring Wonder Woman back to the screen? Well, the answer has been revealed, and it’s now up to you to decide whether she’s a good choice or not.

Friday Night Lights
Blu-ray Edition (2004)
Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Derek Luke, Tim McGraw
Directed by Peter Berg
Universal Home Entertainment
Release Date: January 6, 2009

Coming from a big city, I have yet to encounter true football country. Sure, when the New York Giants or the New York Jets have a great season, there is definite playoff excitement in the air but when the games are over, the city continues. It moves on and moves onto the next sport on the list. For some towns and some cities, the whole area lives and breathes football whether the season is on or not. The town of Odessa, TX, is certainly one of these types of towns and their Permian Panthers is the subject of the 2004 movie Friday Night Lights, now on Blu-ray.

The year is 1988 and the Permian Panthers with coach Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton) are beginning their new season and things are starting out terribly. Their star player James “Boobie” Miles gets hurt at the end of a game and is unable to play for the rest of the season. Gaines’ decision to leave Miles in the game is questioned by the entire town and he slowly drops out of their favor. Gaines’ players have their own problems to deal with, ranging from drunk abusive fathers to unbalanced mothers who need care. With all this stacked up against them the Panthers still found something within themselves to produce a rather successful football season.
