3D Futurama #1

It’s been over a year already since Futurama was (once again) killed off. Its few lives collectively were a decent run, so fans aren’t nearly as devastated now…but still, it’s about that time when the craving for more animated futuristic hijinks from the Planet Express crew starts rumbling again. There’s always that chance someone like a Netflix might swoop in, order new episodes of the show, and give fans a reason to celebrate. But so far it’s been deathly silent.

While fans might not be actively fighting for yet another resurrection of the show—such as Firefly fans continue to fight, most commendably, for example—plenty of them would gladly trade a body part (an unnecessary body part, like an appendix!) for new episodes. And if the show ever does come back, those fans would obviously want it in its classic 2D animated form and nothing else.

But what if…and bear with me for a moment…Futurama were to come back with a more realistic, 3D look? One fan decided to create some videos and images of what this might look like, and they are surprisingly impressive. You can check them out below and share your thoughts!

Futurama Image

At this point, Futurama is an old pro and being canceled and doing the whole series finale thing. That doesn’t make it any easier to accept, but tonight is the night that the show ends its run on Comedy Central…and possibly for good.

There is still hope in all fans of the show and even the show’s creators that it will once again find new life somewhere else, but there is always that chance that this is really it. Depressing, right?

‘Futurama’ Gets Cancelled … Again … But Is It Really The End?

Futurama Image

There’s a few dead TV shows we here at Geeks of Doom have helped the masses fight particularly hard to see resurrected. Of these shows, the two fought hardest for have been Firefly, of course, and the animated favorite Futurama.

The show set a thousand years in the future initially ran from 1999 to 2003 on Fox before it was ultimately canceled. But the eventual release of four direct-to-DVD movies and the relentless passion of the show’s fans paid off, and, to ours and many others’ surprise and delight, it was eventually decided to bring Futurama back to life. The show’s return scored big numbers—numbers that were praised at the time—and the show’s Facebook page passed 10 million likes, proving the lasting and ever-growing fanbase. Only two years later, the page now sits at 26 million likes. How’s that for growth?

But alas, it wasn’t enough. It’s been reported that Comedy Central has decided to cancel the show for its second time, and that the final 13 episodes of season seven, which are set to begin airing this June, will be the last.
