X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Directed by Gavin Hood
Starring Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Ryan Reynolds
Rated PG-13
Release date: May 1, 2009

When X-Men Origins: Wolverine was leaked onto the internet and the flood of angry fanboys littered the interwebs forums with negative reactions, I was one of the many fanboys that were hesitant to go see the film in the theater. But mulling it over, I realized that many of the comic book films that I actually like are ones no fanboy will admit to liking (e.g., Watchmen, Daredevil, Fantastic Four), so I decided to jump feet first into the movie.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine explains the film in a nutshell. The movie tells the tale of how the mutant James Logan (Hugh Jackman) became Wolverine, the Adamantium-laced killing machine we all know and love. Want to see Wolvie as a small child with bone claws? Fall in love with a Canadian hottie? Fight in various World Wars and battle his brother turned nemesis Sabertooth (Liev Schreiber)? It is all here in the movie filled with action, surprises, and a tale of a man who has loved, lost, and killed along the way.

Spoiler Talk: The Multiple ‘Wolverine’ Post-Credits Endings

WolverineSoon after the major internet leak of an unfinished version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the film’s director Gavin Hood announced that the movie would have alternate post-credits endings, with different prints of the film containing a one of the endings. I don’t know how many endings there are in total, but so far two have been talked about online.

Since this is a SPOILER article, here’s your warning: SPOILER, this article discusses the ending of Wolverine and other aspects of the film and includes spoiler video.

First, there’s a scene that interrupts the end credits soon after they begin and shows a previously persuaded Stryker walking til his feet bleed and then some when he’s stopped by military police who want to question him about the murder of General Munson. I’m assuming this scene is probably included in every print of the film.

But then there was a super secret ending…

‘Wolverine’ Re-Shoot Details; New Image

Wolverine

There’s been a little panic lately after it was announced that Gavin Hood‘s X-Men Origins: Wolverine would be heading into some re-shoots. Usually, when a movie goes in for re-shoots, it’s an instant death sentence. It means that things weren’t done right and that they need to be fixed. In turn, this usually means that the film won’t run smoothly and that the tone will be completely off. For the most part, it usually comes down to where the re-shoots occur. If you’re going in to re-shoot your ending, this is the death sentence — but if you’re just cleaning up a bit, then it can go either way. The last best example that comes to mind would be I Am Legend, which if you’ll recall, went in to re-shoot its ending only a few months before the movie’s release. We all know how that turned out.

In the case of Wolverine, Hugh Jackman himself made a point of setting the record straight by contacting Aint It Cool News and re-assuring everyone that all is well and that these re-shoots do not by any means mean bad omens for the movie, currently set for a May 1, 2009 release.

New ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ Trailer!

WolverineNot too long after The Day the Earth Stood Still tried to make you see their movie by proclaiming it the only place to see the new official trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, MySpace now has the trailer to check out in the comfort of your own home — far, far away from Keanu Reeves.

Watch the video right here below!

I was seriously skeptical of what this movie was going to become, but with the oddball hiring of Gavin Hood to direct and the sweet cast to play all these heroes we haven’t seen on film yet, I couldn’t help but be interested. With this trailer, though, I think that interest may have been transformed into a certain level of excitement. It looks really bad-ass, I have to admit. Really!

The movie stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, and Danny Huston as Stryker.

Wolverine is set for a May 1, 2009 release.

Movie Review: Rendition

RenditionRendition
Directed by Gavin Hood
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon, Omar Metwally
Rated R

Rendition is about the post-9/11 American torture practices and shocks the audience into facing the truth of what their fear created, both home and abroad. Rendition made me ashamed to be associated, even by nationality, to those people who voted for, or support the Patriot Act.

A terrorist bombing rips through a crowded market street in the morning in an attempt to kill a middle-eastern official Igal Noar (Abasi Fawal). They miss the official, but it sets in motion a series of events which leads to Anwar El-Ibrahimi being kidnapped and taken to be tortured. Personally invested and morally conflicted, CIA analyist Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal) is brought in to observe the “extreme interrogation techniques” approved by Corinne Whitman (Meryl Streep) and inflicted upon the detainee, who may have information on the bombing. Anwar’s wife, Isabella (Reese Witherspoon), sets out on a mission to find her husband by contacting her old friend, Alan Smith (Peter Sarsgaard), now Senator Hawkins’s (Alan Arkin) personal aid. While Igal Noar attempts to deal with the terrorists in his country, his daughter Fatima (Zineb Qukach) starts to slip into the hands of her shady boyfriend, Khalid El-Emin (Mohammed Khquas).

The writing in Rendition takes what seems to the average American, an ethically gray area, and starts to separate the colors into a story far more black and white. Rendition asks and attempts to answer the question: What happens when the most powerful people in the world become people of convenient principle? Kelley Sane, the writer of this powerful script, asks the question so boldly and without reservation, the audience is required to face the truth of the answer.
