Ron Howard and Paul Bettany On Han Solo Set

You have to hand it to Ron Howard for handling the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff as well as he is. For one thing, he is a bit more transparent, giving fans a look at everything that is going on behind the scenes, even he is releasing meaningless photos of craft food services. But for what it’s worth we are getting better looks at the set than we ever did before. But these reshoots have forced Michael K. William‘s character to be cut out of the entire film. While we knew he would have played “a half-human, half-animal” who was a “kick-ass character,” cutting his character seemed to indicate it wasn’t of major significance.

However, it appears that the character does hold some weight in the film. So much so that Howard turned to a reliable friend to act as William’s replacement. With a few caveats of course. That actor is a Beautiful Mind star Paul Bettany, whom you may know as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More on the story below.

Though the Star Wars spinoffs are meant to expand on the universe, they aren’t without problems. Director Josh Trank was let go from the now in limbo Boba Fett film, and Gareth Edwards‘s Rogue One had to go through extensive reshoots with the help of Tony Gilroy. Now comes Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired from their duty as directors of the still untitled Han Solo film over creative differences. The two were soon after replaced by Ron Howard. But it is why they were fired and the timing of it all that has many of us fascinated about what was going on behind the scenes. More on the story below.

Untitled Han Solo Movie Cast Photo

Yesterday, cam the shocking report that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were departing as directors of the untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff. With only three weeks of production left on the schedule, the timing of their departure came into question. Although Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that it was due to creative differences, it seemed very odd that they would leave at such a critical juncture of the film.

Now there are new details. According to various reports, Lord and Miller were actually fired due to creative differences which stemmed from a conflict between Lawrence Kasdan, the film’s screenwriter. According to these reports, Lord and Miller’s comedic and improvisational style came into conflict with Kasdan’s by-the-script method – meaning what is on the page is what must be shot. More on the story below.
