Shedding Light On ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Behind-The-Scenes Conflicts

Solo: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters this Memorial Day weekend. It’s the second spin-off to be released as a part of the Star Wars anthology series. While it is projected to be a box office hit, the film has had its behind-the-scenes problems. The top being Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s exit from directing the film due to creative differences. Though Lucasfilm was able to find Ron Howard as their replacement, details on the Lord and Miller split from Lucasfilm were bound to come out sooner or later.
Now we are finding out more about what happened and the costs of those reshoots – 70% of which came from Howard. Check out what they had to say below.

How The Kasdans’ Script Helped Ron Howard’s Approach To ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’

Solo: A Star Wars Story is the second of the Star Wars spinoffs. The films are a part of a larger anthology of stories that may not have Jedis but are still a part of the same universe. Directed by Ron Howard, the film follows the adventures of a young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) as he navigates the dangerous criminal underworld. Along the way, he will make new friends like his future co-pilot Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) and the smooth gambler Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover). This journey will set the course for one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
We sat down with our fellow journalists to talk to Howard and screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan at the film’s press day. There we talked to the three about the challenges of making a Star Wars film, bringing a new Han Solo to life, and the film’s moral ambiguity. Check out what they had to say below.

The Star Wars film universe will never be the same now that Disney has started to release spinoffs. These films are part of a larger anthology that will explore parts of the untold stories of the mythology. Much of which has revolved around the Skywalker saga. Solo: A Star Wars Story is a departure from what we have seen since Disney acquired the property, but it also stays true to the spirit of stories that take place in a galaxy far, far away.
Of course, it is incredibly risky when making an origins movie about a character as iconic as Han Solo. But if it is done right, it can pay off in the long run. While Solo may be a little rough around the edges – just like its title character – it is the kind of spinoff that will not disappoint. Check out my full review below.

‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Cast Talk About Being A Part Of The ‘Star Wars’ Legacy
|
 |

The legend of Han Solo lives on in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm’s latest spinoff chronicles Han’s rise up the ranks of the criminal underworld as the lovable rogue sets out to make a name for himself while also making a few friends like Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian along the way. Alden Ehrenreich plays the younger version of the title character, made famous by Harrison Ford. Donald Glover plays Lando Calrissian, a character made famous by Billy Dee Williams; while Joonas Suotamo takes the role of Chewbacca, again, made famous by Peter Mayhew.
We were fortunate enough to sit down with our fellow journalists to talk to the aforementioned actors, along with Emilia Clarke (Qi’ra), Woody Harrelson (Tobias Beckett), Thandie Newton (Val), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (L3-37), and Paul Bettany (Dryden Vos) about the upcoming film. The group talked about their experience on set, what it was like to be a part of a Star Wars film, and much more. Check out what they had to say, below.
