Heath Ledger in A Knight's Tale

Recently we found out that A Knight’s Tale writer and director Brian Helgeland was one of four writers brought in by HBO to develop potential Game of Thrones spinoffs with author George R.R. Martin. As a big fan of both Thrones and A Knight’s Tale, this pleased me greatly.

It’s not often you see something related to the 2001 movie starring Heath Ledger these days, let alone two things within one week’s time. But here we are! A new video has been released which dives into the story behind the real-life person Ledger’s character is based on, Ulrich von Liechtenstein.

Check out the video below.

I Am Heath Ledger Trailer

Believe it or not, in less than a year it will be one decade since Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose in New York. Later that year his unforgettable performance as the Joker was seen by the world when The Dark Knight was released, a performance that would lead to Ledger’s second Academy Award nomination (his first nomination being for his work in Brokeback Mountain), and eventually his first Oscar win.

As part of their “I Am” series, Spike has released a trailer for the upcoming documentary I Am Heath Ledger. The doc looks at the far too short life of the actor through a mixture of videos he filmed of himself, clips of his performances, and interviews with those who knew him.

Continue below to read a synopsis and watch the trailer.

Heath Ledger as Joker in The Dark Knight

I don’t know if people will be talking about Zack Snyder’s and Ben Affleck’s Batman when the year 2026 or so rolls around or not. What I do know is that people are still talking about Christopher Nolan‘s and Christian Bale‘s Batman, especially 2008’s The Dark Knight, which featured the late Heath Ledger‘s unforgettable Oscar-winning performance as the Joker.

An excellent new YouTube channel (only a couple of months old) called Lessons from the Screenplay takes a closer look at Ledger’s Joker in a recently released video, and what truly made him the perfect villain to face off with the Batman.

You can check it out below.

Five Batman Villains

When Ra’s al Ghul (Liam Neeson) and Dr. Jonathan Crane (The Scarecrow, played by Cillian Murphy) appeared as villains in Christopher Nolan‘s 2005 film, Batman Begins, it was obvious that this Dark Knight series would be a drastic departure from the previous Batman movies by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher.

Sadly, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy has come to an end, and after a heartfelt farewell letter it’s obvious he won’t be revisiting Gotham City any time soon. There’s still hope, however, that instead of rebooting the Batman franchise (and minimizing Nolan’s masterful trilogy), Warner Bros. will find a way to continue the story and put a new twist on some classic villains.

Below are 5 Batman Villains Who Deserved The Christopher Nolan Treatment – impractical, fantastical, altogether colorful bad guys who could be effectively re-worked as gritty, reality-based foes for the Dark Knight…
