Recently we found out that A Knight’s Tale writer and director Brian Helgeland was one of four writers brought in by HBO to develop potential Game of Thrones spinoffs with author George R.R. Martin. As a big fan of both Thrones and A Knight’s Tale, this pleased me greatly.
It’s not often you see something related to the 2001 movie starring Heath Ledger these days, let alone two things within one week’s time. But here we are! A new video has been released which dives into the story behind the real-life person Ledger’s character is based on, Ulrich von Liechtenstein.
Check out the video below.
Now, A Knight’s Tale is not a historical movie. It’s not a biopic. Nothing like that. It’s loosely based on some real-life people. And of course, Ledger actually played William Thatcher in the movie, only creating the Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein persona in order to compete in tournaments. But it’s still fun to learn about the real history and much older stories that inspired it.
The video comes from YouTube’s Today I Found Out. Be sure to head to their channel to find a bunch of videos covering a wide variety of interesting topics, with new ones uploaded every day.
