Heroes

The biggest television networks have been firing on all cylinders this week, choosing what shows to renew, what new shows to add, and what titles would be executed via cancellation.

The busiest of the powerhouse networks have been ABC and NBC, who extended and killed off some big names in their lineups. The biggest of these was easily NBC’s Heroes, which people have expected to get canceled for a long time now, but it just kept on going. There were thoughts of bringing the show, which lost its appeal by the end of the second season, back for one more closing season. Instead, NBC decided to just end the show now, but they may still do one more special finale to wrap up whatever might need wrapping up in the world of Heroes. The network also ended Law & Order (but renewed spinoff SVU) and medical dramas Mercy and Trauma.

Anyone still watching Heroes?

If so, it looks like Sweeps week is coming a bit early this Fall for the NBC drama with this Monday’s episode featuring the first kiss between Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and her roommate Gretchen (Dawn Olivieri).

If you’re not watching the show, then head’s up, lesbian kiss this Monday at 8 PM on NBC.

Isn’t the lesbian kiss so 1990’s? I guess girl on girl action never gets old, does it?

Check out here below for a sneak peek of Claire and Gretchen’s first kiss, along with the synopsis for this Monday’s episode “Hysterical Blindness.”

Fox Announces Plans To Reboot Their ‘Fantastic Four’ Franchise

Fantastic4

Fantastic Four is a 2005 movie that starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis and was followed by the 2007 sequel 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer — both of which made fairly large amounts of money, but weren’t loved by critics. Many seemed to think the properties were a little too cheesy, and rumors began to swirl about a possible reboot only a few years after the first movies were produced. This rumor is now a reality, as just on the heels of the massive Disney acquisition of Marvel Studios, Fox has officially announced their plans to give the Fantastic Four franchise a makeover.

Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, and I Am Legend writer Akiva Goldsman has been brought in to oversee the reboot. This is an interesting move — as you can see, Goldsman’s track record with superheroes and summer blockbusters is a little rocky, but on the other end of the spectrum, he has also co-written Oscar winners and nominees like A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man. No specifics on how much his work as an “overseer” might maneuver the final product.

Was Firing Writers On ‘Heroes’ Really Necessary?

Does Internet Fan Reaction Help Or Hurt Your Favorite Shows?

So I just finished watching the latest episode of Heroes (on VHS — insert old-timer joke here) titled “Dual,” which everyone seems to have liked and it got me thinking. There has been so much news and talk on the Internet about how tired and convoluted the show has become and how it is no longer as good as it was in season’s past that producers have started taking notice of the negative fan reaction.

Recently, several of the writers for Heroes were fired after the show dipped low in the ratings and fan complaints surfaced, but was that a good thing? Tim Kring, creator of Heroes, has told fans that the series has already completed a good portion of the entire third season. As it turns out, this last episode which people are starting to come around to was written by Jeph Loeb, one of the writers axed. So could NBC have jumped the gun in causing such a shake-up? Could perhaps the show have eventually regained some of its ratings on their own?

11 Fictional Presidents You’d Likely Vote For Over Obama & McCain

The Movie God   |  @   |

Obama/McCainIn honor of this “most important election in American history” taking place this Tuesday, November 4th between Barack Obama and John McCain, we at Geeks of Doom decided to compile a little list of some of the completely fictional presidents that have shown up in movies or on TV over the years who you would likely vote for over our current options. Some are completely different than anything we’ve ever seen before in a president, while some share familiar similarities; some come from dramas, some from science fiction, and some from completely ridiculous satire. But one thing’s for sure, they’d all make worthy candidates in one way or another.

No matter which candidate you’re hoping wins this Tuesday, or who you love or hate, we all just hope things don’t go to hell and good things come from whoever wins But until that time comes, please read on and enjoy 11 Fictional Presidents You’d Likely Vote For Over Obama & McCain!

HeroesHeroes
Season 2
Starring Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman
Universal Home Entertainment
Release date: August 26th, 2008

After going back to re-watch Season 1, and finding myself pleasantly surprised at how well it held up, I also went back and watched the second season of Heroes. You may call me an apologist, but I enjoyed season 2 almost as much as the first one. Did the season have its problems? Sure. A lot of the new characters were dumb and annoying, and their introduction caused characters the audience had grown attached to in the first season to be cast aside. It also didn’t help the show that the writer’s strike occurred just as the story was gaining some speed and becoming more interesting. Having seen some of what the creators had planned for the second half of the season, I’m sad that we didn’t get the story as planned. Still, we get 11 solid episodes on this set, and while they may not be quite as good as the first season, they still have their moments, and are more enjoyable than a lot of other crap on TV.

The episodes on this set cover the entire second season, which saw Hiro (Masi Oka) sent to the past to inspire his childhood hero. We also got Peter’s (Milo Ventimiglia) trip to Ireland, then his trip to the future, followed by his journey to Texas. We got Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and her annoying new boyfriend, the “death” of HRG (Jack Coleman), and then we got to meet Claire’s birth mother.
