“Hooked On A Feeling”, the 1974 cover song by the band Blue Suede, has found a new life to a brand new audience and generation via its inclusion in the trailer for the highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, according to Billboard. The movie trailer was released last Wednesday, bringing attention not only to the obscure superhero team, but also to the song, a quintessential slice of early 1970s pop confection.
The song is best remembered for its sticks-in-your-brain-and-doesn’t-let-go “Oogachaka” chants, which is used to great effect in the trailer as it plays during an action montage, and also when main character Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) has his headphones confiscated and that’s the song that’s playing (we also get to hear the chorus at the end of the trailer) when we see one of the characters listen to it via headphones, and then it plays during an action montage, ending off the preview with the chorus. Over 2,000 sales of the song were estimated in one day, its highest total ever in the digital realm. (In 2008, half that amount had sold.)
